rrdawson
I am new to the Minidisc format. I just got a Sony MK II X-4 4-track recorder. I used an old Sony 74min disc that I had left over from film school when I was recording wild sound for my film projects. When I put the disc in it still seemed to have material on it but it was not putting out any audio. I had a monitor hooked up and the volume worked fine but there just wasn't any audio. I tried recording some other stuff but when I played back the disc the time frames were jumping and there was still no audio. Also, whatever I'm recording doesn't seem to be writing to the disc. Every time I write TOC and take out the disc, it reads as a blank disc when I re-insert it into the recorder. Is my disc just old and messed up from being in a box over the last 7 years (or from opening that shutter on accident)? My first inclination is to buy a new disc but I thought I'd check here first. Thanks!
sfbp
Disclaimer: I don't own one of these, never have, probably never will. Based on what I recall reading by folks here who own this machine, you can play (maybe even record on) a std minidisc, but for the 4-track operation you need special disks, specifically the MD Data disk. I'm sure one of them will pipe up soon enough to confirm or deny this part.So most likely your first step is to go find an MD Data Disk. They run about $14 (for one disk!!!), and can be had at places like tapewarehouse.com, guitarcenter.com, and minidisc-canada (now pauseplaystop.com).
