Hello All , Im new to the site - looks great so looking forward to gettin some help and tips .

i need to upgrade the driver on my old laptop ( OS is win vista home basic pack ) i dont have the original installation disc or the manual . when i connect via USB it just says '' installation driver failed ''

Can someone please advise ? thanks

You actually need this driver: http://forums.minidisc.org/downloads/download.php?file=7

After installing the driver, I think, you need to install SonicStage: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?s=&am...st&p=141995

ah cool , thanks for that - so just install the driver then install sonicstage . then connect my Sharp im-dr420h via the USB and it should start to install automatically ?????? ;)

I hope so. The driver for the unit is actually written by SONY. SHARP units originally used BeatJam, but that program is also based on SONY's OpenMG kernel, which processes all communications with NetMD units. So, nothing should prevent SHARP units from working with SonicStage.

Avrin , i have installed the driver , but when i connect the player via the usb , it still says installation failed - then asks me to use the netmd disc i got with the player . which i dont have .

what do i do now ? im losing all hope at this stage ???

Vista can be problematical with drivers. Is there any way you can try this on XP?

Make sure that you are running as Administrator (or a user with Admin privileges) for any installation of ***any*** software on Vista, I'm sure you knew this already. Sony actually warns about this too.

You can also do RunAs Administrator. Not sure, as I am not a great fan of Vista. You may actually find it easier with Windows 7 :)

Think id be better off just getting an new model , it's less stress

Aren't you using a 64-bit version of Vista? If yes, then there is no way to install a NetMD driver (for any unit).

If your Vista is 32-bit, then, when it asks for the installation disk, simply point to the location where you've unpacked the driver distribution package.
