Compensation for NW-A series owners?

Question

It seems with the 1.04 release of Connect, we have something that almost works, and allows the device to funtion as originally advertised.

So now the big question, what in the way of compensation do the long suffering NW-A series get?

How about a free album download from Connect for every month of ownership uptil the 1.04 release, as a gesture of goodwill from Sony, for all the grief we have had to put up with, and choices between non-working Connect or partial functionality SonicStage...

Well it's a nice idea but I can't see it happening. Sony haven't even emailed users to tell us the update is available, I only found it because of watching boards like this one.

Same here and anyway the Sony connect store downloads are only available in some countries.

LOL. The only way any of you are going to see any "compensation" of any kind is if users in each country/jurisdiction launch class-action lawsuits against Sony to seek compensation.

Otherwise Sony is happy to laugh all the way to the bank with your money. It's how all big corporations are really. They aren't going to ever admit they did anything wrong on their part (with the exception of government regulation enforced product safety recalls) and they certainly aren't going to do it in the form of any kind of offered goodwill (which would entail that they did do something wrong).

Instead they just keep on truckin' until they get slapped with a lawsuit. Even then, they'll spend hundreds of thousands in legal fees just to keep from having to pay out millions in damages/compensation. Makes sense from the shareholders point of view, regarless of what the customers think.

Then perhaps it's time to consider a class action lawsuit...

As starters, I am going to start a online peition to compensate owners of NW-A series. I think 1 album download for every month of painfull ownership is quite fair. It may also encourage users to download more from Connect, now the sofware is actually working...

Will post details once the petition is set up. Hopefully the site admin may post it in the news section.

MDX is right in the assumption that we (long-suffering NW-A Users) will receive exactly no compensation, but this does not mean that we can't do something about it. We live in a capitalist society and although many would be quick to claim that large corporations are taking over, the fact of the matter is that the one's who possess the greatest power are us as consumers.

Signing a petition will demonstrate to Sony that you are dissatisfied but ultimately they don't really care. They've already got your money. What you need to do is make sure that you invest your money elsewhere next time: Then they will really start to take notice.

As much as I have enjoyed using my NW-A1000, there is no chance in hell of me ever buying another Sony portable audio device ever again. I'm sure I'm the only one who feels alone in this. Indeed, having spent four months working in Oxford's Sony Centre I can tell you most definitely that I am not.

It's your money, you worked for it and it's yours to use. Make your stand by giving it to someone else. (I mean by buying a Creative or iRiver, don't just give it to a random guy on the street!)
