Hi, I record my mixes to my minidisk player, in LP4, but I can't transfer them to my PC, sonicstage gives an error.

I can only transfer from PC > MD and back.

Is there a workaround for this?

(I am running sonicstage from here http://forums.sonyinsider.com/index.php?showtopic=24497&st=0&p=168808&#entry168808

And have the driver installed from here http://cats-eye.tistory.com/148 ).

Please reply, thankyou.

There is no workaround involving SonicStage IF the track was made by SonicStage to begin with. No NetMD track that was transferred to a portable MD has ever been transferred back to a PC. This is by design. When you "transfer them back" it is deleting the content from the portable (NetMD) and incrementing the transfer count on the PC, assuming you never deleted the copy on there. If there's no copy on the PC, you are stuck.

However if you have a deck with optical out, a sound card with optical in, and don't mind playing all the disks through, you can capture them in your PC with WaveRec or some other software (I've never used Audacity) such as CoolEdit or Adobe Audition. This is a pain, as you will have to subdivide and retitle everything - however for irreplaceable stuff it does work.

If the tracks were made by recording (Mic or LineIn) then buying an MZ-RH1 will do the trick. It will allow these SP,LP2 and LP4 tracks to be uploaded to the PC. It's the ONLY model that allows this. However anything recorded in the HiMD format should be uploadable on any HiMD device.

It's not impossible that in time someone will come up with a fix for the inability to upload these downloaded NetMD tracks with the RH1, as the restriction is just in the headers, which need rewriting. The actual sound data on the disk is NOT encrypted.

Hope this helps.

thanx for taking the time to reply, yeha all I do is record my mixes onto MD, the problem is im having to do mic/line in record again from MD > PC causing more encoding and loss of quality, it's a shame theirs no program to take the files recorded onto MD > PC :/

Thanx anyway, if anyone else has some insight, please let me/us know!

much appreciated, thankyou.

You can definitely take LP4 from MD to PC, the upload leaves it completely unchanged, if you have the MZ-RH1. I do it quite routinely for internet radio broadcasts recorded on an MDLP deck; I then store the LP4 file in HiMD "format" on another MD (or an Atrac CD) as this saves a lot of space.

how? when sonicstage gives error? :/

Which program is best suited, as I state I use a Sharp NEDMD DR-400E

Thanx for replying :)

I only use my Mini Disk recorder to record my mixes etc, but sonicstage refused to transfer them over :/ Which makes me need to do line in/mic in record onto PC, causing more loss of quality, quite annoying really. :(

I don't have my PC close to decks, that's why I have to use MiniDisk, because my PC is pretty far away from my rig :)

You asked if you could do it. The answer is yes. With the Sony MZ-RH1.

You ask now if you can do it with your Sharp. The answer is no.

Sorry about that.
