Can anyone help me with this before, I format my hard drive, and re-install windows Xp.

If I back up all my sonic stage music files to NW-HD5, then format Hard drive, after I have reinstalled windows.

After transfering files backup on NW_HD5, and transfering them beack to computer, will the files work.

I have a funny feeling this wont work, if it did, you could quite easily pass music around at work or with freinds.

if your music has no drm then you can drag the files to your hd5 as standard data. check track properties in SS, it depends on when you imported it.

if your tunes do have drm then you can run the sonicstage backup tool to create a an importable database for any sonicstage. so yes you can share music these days if both parties have sonicstage.

the backup tool is under 'tools' in sonicstage btw

I will advice you to use SonicStage back up tool (be on the safer side )

I agree with Stuge. These guys helped me do exactly the same thing with a 20+ GB library of ATRAC3+ music. I used the SS Backup tool to back up the entire library (slow and time consuming). I did my back up onto a USB 2.0 drive. I then wiped my machine rebuilt it and installed SS 3.4 fresh and use the Backup tool to restore the library.

I had virtually zero issues. I did need to connect to 'Connect' for some reason to 'authorize' my DB before the restore would begin. I am sure this is to keep one from making a copy of their database in this fashion and sharing it with friends/family.

Some of my ripped albums have DRM (ripped with older versions of SS), others are DRM-less thanks to ripping in newer versions of SS.

Good Luck!

I have a slightly different problem.

I put a lot of music on my NW-HD1 and recently, my Windows crashed so I had to format and reinstall. Now when I connect the NW-HD1 to my PC, SS3.4 says it can't transfer tracks to it cuz it contains tracks from another computer. I really just want to use the VAIO transfer program cuz its so much simpler than SS, but that doesnt work either; it says "please register the device using sonicstage" or something like that.

Is there any way out for me to add new music without formatting the NW-HD1 and starting afresh?

Hopefully you loaded GYM software on made keys prior to all of this.

If not your S.O.L.

I don't actually mind transferring the music again, but my problem is that there are certain bad sectors on the HDD and I have crudely marked them out by renaming unplayable .OM* files in the filesystem to .OM*.BAD so that that disk area isn't used again.

I actually need an app like the old DOS Norton Disk Doctor that finds and MARKS bad sectors on an HDD. Know any?

Wow, are you saying you still use your DAP with a bad HDD ? Why not get repaired or replaced under warranty. You could also purchase a new HDD

Weeeeelllll.. i'm too lazy to go to the service center somewhere in the heart of Andheri East.. and then my cousin picked this piece up for me from UK, so I don't have all the papers.

A new hdd sounds kinda nice but I dunno how much it would cost in India ... does anyone know?

Hi ,

It`s interesting that your hard disk developed Bad sectors .

HD5 will cost Rs19,900 & A1000(6gb)=Rs 15990..(Retail prices )

Why don`t you see Grey market ?? HD5 might cost about Rs15000-Rs16000..

When you hard format a drive doesn't that check for bad sectors and lock them? I remember chkdsk used to dump the crap from bad sectors into .CHK files so you couldn't use them again.

I've tried CHKDSK seeral times, but it just hangs the PC. But I think I'll give it one more try tonight and leave it on overnight...

It would be great to have this, but I don't even know how this could be accomplished in relation to a DAP unit.

Hi,

I would need a little help here.

I just bought a new computer to replace my 4 yr old - 15 gig HD laptop and at the moment i'm struggling to get my vaio pocket to work on my new pc without having to initialise it, 'cos I really don't want to lose my music (cost me enought time getting it...)

Is there any way that this can be done ?

So far, i've tried installing various versions of Sonic stage on my new pc but none of them will work with my player...

Thanks for any you could offer

If I am correct, re-initialization will not erase data.

Can anyone else confirm this too?

PS - Do you have GYM installed?
