silkthinker
Hi all. I have two MD units: my beloved MZ S1, which I adore, mainly cause of its sturdiness and the luminiscent display, and a MZ-NH600D, which is not too bad itself, but very simple. I have never attempted to play a HiMD encoded disc in the MZ-S1 but I wonder what would happen? surely an error message. but, has if anyone attempted to come up with some hack to make this possible? I know it's a bit redundant having one player of each technology, but since we don't have access to quality second-hand stores and MD discs are nowhere to be found here in México, I started wondering. Thanx. UPDATE: well, i just put a himd disc into my mz s1 and the display reads "HiMD DISC" and you can hear a tone, but that's it.
sfbp
Correct. HiMD uses a completely different recording format and the firmware of the previous players is unable to decode it. The reverse is however possible. They kindly put a regular MD header to allow you to have an idea of what is on the disk.
