stahlhelm
Hi all! This is my first post here... I own a nice black MZ-E33 walkman but I have a problem with it. During listening it it stops randomly (but normally a few minutes) after started to listen a disc. On the remote the disc indicator still showing "spinning" but no sound. I have to eject the disc and re-load to listen again. It happens even when the unit is on the top of my desk steady I mean I am not jogging or jumping with it. Also the unit was never dropped it still looks like brand new spotless. I have downloaded the service manual of it but so far I didn't dare to do anything to it. I thought myself I ask the experts here first What is this? The lens looks clean... Thank you in advance Regards
sfbp
Welcome to the forums! Sorry, no idea. I'm sure the following statement is not helpful, but your unit will NOT suffer the commonest single problem in recorders, namely the overwrite head ribbon cable dying gradually - since there's no overwrite head in a player-only machine. Cleaning the lens with isopropanol on a Qtip might help, just depends if it's dirty or not The spindle/motor assembly might be tired. Probably not worth fixing anything yourself since the parts (even if available) will cost you more than a used unit on Ebay. However you might have some luck with this guy. Note that he doesn't list your model, however he will know if it is within the range of his capabilities. So you need to email him first. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sony-Portable-Minidisc-Recorder-Player-Repair-Service-/170511876800 Here is the service manual: http://minidisc.org/manuals/sony/service/mz-e33.pdf Good luck.
