stahlhelm
Hi all, after browsing the fleabay for a walkman now I know what I want. I would put a small list here of my preferences if you could tell me which MD Walkman meets with this all. Hopefully I don't want too much -good sound quality (will record with MDS-JE500 deck from analogue tuner and turntable and add later some very good headphones) -FM radio remote -NetMD capable (will transfer mp3 lessons from PC to walkman) -equaliser or bass and treble set -remote backlit (not a must but preferred) Is there a walkman like this existing? Unfortnately I don't have the budget for an MZ-RH1... Thanks
sfbp
The mp3 can be handled by conversion in Sonic Stage. If you must have the radio remote, I know only the following: MZ-NF610 (may work to add separate remote RM-MC37LT to MZ-NF510) MZ-NF810 (may work to add separate remote RM-MC37LT to MZ-NF710) MZ-G750/755 (different remote from the above, comes std I think) MZ-NH800 (WILL work to add separate remote RM-MC37LT to MZ-NH700) There are also some other NF models such as the MZ-NF520. And some Aiwa models, you can try the equipment browser. Hope this helps Stephen PS I don't think any of them are backlit, but I could be wrong. Sorry. Which one is the best sounding from your list?
sfbp
Which one is the best sounding from your list? No question whatsoever. The NH700 (well, 800). It's HiMD and has a lot more choices "later" as well as playing back earlier formats especially LP2 brilliantly (Type-S is there for all HiMD). However you may have better luck getting an NF810, depending on where you live and who is willing to ship. The NH700 is easily available in UK, but elsewhere tends to be (rare and) expensive. The other advantage of the NF810 is that it takes an external battery (you will need the sidecar battery case) in addition to the internal NH-14WM gumstick. The NH700 takes only AA which is considered a huge benefit, but no sidecar for second battery. By the way there are RM-MC37LT on Ebay right now for $18 - see here Good hunting Stephen
Azureal
I believe the NF810 is Type S as well, so you would have the advantage of better MDLP playback on that unit. Another thought, while the NH700 is a nice looking unit, it is plastic with a formed thin aluminum front plate, while the NF810 is a solid metal bodied unit (like my N910, both of the same ilk), much more sturdy in my opinion ... Just another opinion, as Stephen mentioned, the 810 units seem to show up on eBay and much better prices more frequently.
sfbp
Not to be picky but I think the 810 is made about the same. Metal lid (I agree the outside of the 700 is all plastic but it's fairly sturdy inside there), plastic body. I find the 810 also has problems with the battery door getting loose, at least mine does. The most solid unit I've had to date, the N910, doesn't accept a radio.
Azureal
I think you're right. Looking at the pictures in the browser, the 810 looks like it has a plastic back. I just like the feel and weight of the "all metal" units, the N1, the N10, the N910, etc. Although, I have to say I have gotten a ton of use from my NH900, NH710 and NH600 , all units with a lot of plastic and metal parts. )

It looks perfect for my application. Thank you Regards
Tom in RI
I have the MZ-NF610 and have been completely underwhelmed by the radio. Of the portable options I own it is the worst without question. In addition, I think I read that the radio drains the battery faster than md play. The two other portable radios I own are a Zune 80 and 120 and the Sony SRF-M37W (this is the best unit I have for radio). Before I bought the MZ-NF610 I thought the idea of a radio in the md unit was pretty cool, but reception, for me, hasn't been good and it is very easy to inadvertently hit buttons on the remote while walking. My advice would be to grab a Sony SRF-M37W for portable radio and not let that limit your choice of md unit.
