Issue w/ Md Port DG2

Hello all, got my MZ-RH10, great device, cant get enough of it - however it came with (the seller included it atleast) with a MD Port DG2, the one with the digital out. Only problem is after the driver instlled itself, and I opened an audio file, the optical connection had LOADS of static on it - I still got the audio signal, just with huge amounts of static. I understand that the DG2's volume in contingent on the device's audio, but when I manually turned it down the volume, the static was still just as prevalent - any ideas on what the issue might be?

Anybody else get this issue?

Any possible fix?

Maybe you are confused. This DGPort will never get any data (or music) OUT of the RH10. If you confirm that you are trying to record music TO the RH10 from your PC USB (out to DGPort and thence from its optical to the RH10) then we'll try and diagnose it.

But it sounds to me like you hooked up IN instead of OUT and wonder why it doesn't work.

added: wait a second. Let's assume you did it right (your other posts seem to show you know what's what) - have you tried muting all the INPUTS to your PC Sound card?

Almost sounds like the INPUTs to the volume control are picking something up.

Take a look under the Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices. Turn off as much as possible.

Poke around everywhere you can in your volume control and disable everything you can for input.

Let me rephrase - Windows allows you to specify a source (input) and a sink (output) for sound operations. You need, I suspect, to focus on the source (and not the sink). Dollars to doughnuts the output is working fine.

Check to see what the default device is for "Sound Recording". My guess is it is still your regular sound card, and that one of the inputs on that is live.

Hmmm... tried it with another PC and the audio came out fine.... Atleast I know it's not the DG port itself... On my older Toshiba L305D it works like a charm.

My little Acer Aspire One ZA3 is the one giving me torubles with the static, and that's the comp I use on graveyard (for it's portability, and relativly great speed, considering...)

Sf, thanks for the advice, will have to check all the inputs on that little Acer at work tonight. Thanks for the responses, and now that I look at that first post, I apologize for the confusion, I was at work last night when i posted, and things kept getting nuttier and nuttier at the job lol
