Hello everyone, I need your help, becuase I must be doing so,ething wrong, but cannot as yet see what it is.

I have installed the 4.3.02 version of SS in a restored machine funning Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. I do NOT need the old database or any of its contents. I would just like to start afresh. As might be expected I can't actually load SS as it appears to detect an old and invalidated database. I googled how to create a new empty one, found Avrin's post of 01 May 2010 and followed it, i.e. moved the existing .mdb and .omg files etc away from the packages directory, and hoped it would create a new one. However, it just does the same thing: gives me the 00004e2e error etc. It's as if the packages it's looking at are not where Avrin thought they would be. I must be doing something wrong. What is it? Can anyone help?

It seems that Program Data\Sony Corporation\OMG Jukebox\Packages is the same location as Users\All Users\OMG Jukebox\Packages and the is also an empty Program Data\Sony Corporation\SonicStage\Packages and aProgram Data\Sony Corporation\SonicStage\Contents but the latter only has some .oma files, no .mdb

Your help is appreciated

Straight off the top (without thinking too hard) - is Sonic Stage depending on the existence of drive letters?

Assuming it isn't that basic, now you come to mention it, I did install this software to the pre-release W7 32bits.

Is there some reason you can't "just" run the install?

OK, so I've checked every single Key/value under HKLM\Software\Sony Corporation, and all paths begin with C:\, which is, of course the drive letter of this Win7 image when it has booted. Unless there are other keys/ini/data files involved?

Rereading your post - yes I have just run the install. In full, I removed an old SS 3.4 (which presumably still leaves the data files behind) and the just did the install, which worked flawlessly with no errors. It now has SS 4.3.02 & OMG 5.4

All futher suggestions and help/assistance gratefully received. It must be something obvious I'm overlooking here.

Still crashes?

Remove the pointer to the connect store. The infamous 4e2e error is something trying to reauthenticate. Quick question: did you remove ALL THE BACKUPS (most of them in hidden folders)????

Avrin shows how, it is (I think) at

HKLM\Software\Sony Corporation\SonicStage\EMD

And there are some things with URL's in. The KEYS (which zaps the values obviously) can be deleted!!

Good luck.

Thanks S.

It doesn't crash, it just complains about the invlidated DB and wants to reauthenticate it. I think you are right that this is because it's finding DRM content referenced in an old DB. I'll keep looking. using your good advice.

The version I used, @ http://www.thshdwknws.net/ , like Avrin's, doesn't have the connect stuff, I believe.

My databases are all at

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Corporation\SonicStage\Packages

But I dare say for 3.4 SS, they are somewhere slightly different. It's probably being kind, helping you to upgrade.

Another thought. These are normal Microsoft Access (2003 I think, maybe the early ones are earlier version of JetDb, and that may even be the entire problem) files. You can have a look inside them. Maybe you can even upgrade them by opening with a recent version of Access and saving them in the newer (non-Xml, still) format.

Suggest doing a hidden-files-included search for *.mdb and search-and-destroy.
