I notice 100% cpu usage when ss4 is running

i can see in taskinfo application that individual mp3 is scanned for some reason,

I switched off cd info completely.

I have upgraded from ss3.4

Welcome to AtraclIFE !

Are there any other programs running along with SonicStage ??

That sounds quite odd. I installed Sonicstage CP on two computers, and both seem to run fine without eating up all of my computer's CPU Usage. I'm running a 2Ghz Celeron with 512MB RAM, Windows Media Center Edition laptop. After installation and after the reboot, when it came time to "convert the database", i was a little bit concerned.. I only have ~2500 songs in my database, and it took half an hour for it to do so!

But after that first time, SSCP starts up as fast as SS3.4 for me, which is less than 10seconds

sonicstage1.jpg

It's using A LOT LESS RAM/CPU power compared to Connect Player 1.0

I think this version of SSCP is running about the same as to when I was using SS3.4

I'm running the (unofficial?) USA release. On Connect.com it's still Sonicstage 3.4, but I found the download to it on Atraclife's homepage about the announcement of the new SSCP. Guess it'll be finalized soon or something. It goes into the Connect USA site and I have no problem buying music and what not.

Anyway, sorry to hear about both of your problems :(

my SSCP only uses much memory when I'm on connect store (around 70mb). When the program is running in the background, minimized, it only uses around 10mb which sounds very decent to me. As for your "100% CPU problem", I used to have this very same problem with Windows Media Player. According to windows, this was caused by a failure during installation. Reinstalling didn't resolve it though, you had to download a patch from the windows site. Don't know, but maybe there is a similarity between these two cases??

Some programs can request full CPU usage, it doesn't necessarily mean they use the full 100% allocated to them. Not so good if you want to run other programs with Sonicstage.

I think what you're referring to here is that programs may request to run in one of 6 thread/application priority modes. The lowest being "Low" (where other programs will take CPU time over that program) and the highest being "Realtime" (where that program will take precedence for CPU time over all other programs regardless of what is going on). Almost every program uses "Normal" priority, where Windows manages CPU allocation to the various programs automatically and based on what the user is doing. Priority can be changed in a program however, or it can be changed manually in the task manager for pretty much any program, by right clicking on the "image name" and going to "Set Priority -->". I'm certain you'll find omgbox.exe to be using Normal priority if you check it out. (With Hyper-Threaded or multi-core systems you can also set CPU affinity so the application has more affinity to use one CPU or both as regulated again by Windows.)

Unfortunately, however, that doesn't mean that you can't get a program running to 100% and bogging the system (why I'm not sure, but it can still happen). I've had this happen with SS, but only once and it was because I was reading a severely scratched CD which SS didn't like to read.
