Windows 7 64 Pro + RH1 = :(?

Just tried getting this to work, but no dice. The computer doesn't recognize the RH1 at all. Will XP mode fix this? Or is something more drastic required to get RH1 functionality? Or am I missing something stupid?

I'm positive the only version of SS I've ever had on this computer is the 4.3 ultimate one avail on this forum, and I've never used or installed drivers for any other MD kit.

OK, I've found that if I use a Hi-MD formatted MD, it shows up just fine using W7 64 Pro. Haven't tried transferring or anything, but it looks good.

I can't get a regular SP recorded MD to show up in either the XP virtual machine or the version running native in W7 64 pro, however. Is there anything I can do (or should try?)

GOT IT!

Had to download the whole Windows XP stupidity for Windows 7 x64 Pro. Got it open and installed Sonic Stage in it. Realized eventually I needed to press a button at the top that said "USB" and then "Hi-MD/Net MD Attach." A few beeps later and BAM - the tracks started appearing in SonicStage!

Tested SP transfers to and from the RH1, working like a charm. A little clunky, but for 5+ year old tech I'm ecstatic!

I'm still not sure if I'll use mostly SP (for sweet R50 / N10 action) or Hi-SP / PCM (for sweet sound quality and RH1 hero-worship) but it's nice to know I've got options

Check out this thread describing the use of some modified driver configurations for a newer Sony application for 64 bit Windows:

Windows 64 bit & SonicStage CP

This thread is a bit convoluted, but basically it describes the details necessary to use SS in a 64 bit environment without the need for the XP compatibility mode virtual machine. You need to download the drivers (link in the thread) and extract to some local directory, rename the .inf file to .old and then grab the last .inf data posted in the thread and paste into a a text file and save as filename.inf in the same directory.

This will allow for the installation of NetMD access to nearly any Sony NetMD device. Windows 7 has built in support for HiMD access to the RH1 and SonicStage runs great in W7 without XP Compat mode. These 64 bit drivers work great, you should give them a try.

We really need to package these drivers up and add a readme to describe the setup.

Note that, if you have a failed 32 bit driver install from attaching the RH1 to the W7 machine, the attempt to install the new 64 bit driver will not work until you go in to the Device manager, locate the device and navigate to "update driver", in the update browse box, navigate to the directory with the modified W7 filename.inf and .sys files and reload the driver from there, should clean things up nicely.

I have done this and moved my library of music from the XP VM back into the native W7 OS and it works like a charm, also tested with multiple NetMD and HiMD (in both HiMD and NetMD mode) devices.

The great thing about this solution is that even users without the Pro or Ultimate 64 bit versions of W7 and with Vista64 can access their NetMD and HiMD devices in NetMD mode.
