lipwak
Hi, I've acquired a friend's minidisc recorder, a Sharp MD-MS 702 MK. I can plug a stereo mic into it (a Sony ECM-939LT) and hear what is happening around me whne I hit the record button on the Sharp. I then hit enter or the play button and it seems to be recording (the counter runs) but when I try to play that recording back, I hear nothing, even though the volume is all the way up or I vary it. It does play pre-recorded content just fine so I know it can play some discs. Am I doing something wrong? I have a manual but don't see what I need to do hear my own recordings. Many thanks for any help. Cheers, John L
jim.hoggarth
If the disc is erased, it is the overwrite head at fault. If the disc comes out exactly as it went in, it is the laser. Either way, it is a job for an engineer not a user. Sorry. Jim
lipwak
Thanks. That's too bad but I'm lucky in that at least I do have a portable deck that I can record on.
sfbp
Just beware - even pressing the track mark key exactly once (or more, of course) will blank any disk you put in it. If you don't get it fixed my strong suggestion would be to superglue the trackmark/record button on the unit so it cannot be activated by accident. jim.hoggarth
I have quite a few scrap 702s in stock, plus a box-full of brand new laser units. You are lucky that the fault is not the usual TOC error, caused by a split in the helical gear on the business end of the sled drive shaft. Nearly every Sharp from that era I see has that fault. Your recorder can be fixed (blatant advert for my services). Jim
lipwak
OK, I'll bite. How much will it cost to fix it? Including shipping from the NY area.
