MZRH1 not recognized. HELP

I need to transfer a load of files from my old MD's to my computer, then convert them into mp3's for use in a different type of player.

I bought a MZRH1, which I understand will do this. I even bought a laptop with XP installed, as I understand that there are no supported drivers for Wndows 7.

Anyway ......... I've downloaded all the relevant drivers, sonic stage etc. from Sony support, but the MZRH1 still does not show up as a drive in Windows Explorer.

Also of course, when I try to import files in Sonic stage I get the old message "cannot import as these files were recorded on a different PC".

Can anyone please help me? Thanks. Bernie

Where to begin?

1. Anything you DOWNloaded to the MD's is (in principle) lost forever (to the digital domain). Better to get an MDLP capable deck with optical out (we can give you a list) and play them back to a PC via optical if you're desperate.

2. With Windows 7 you need to install the driver from our downloads section, but you got around that by using XP.

3. Even now, you will not see a directory in Windows Explorer. That is by design. MD directory (TOC) design predates most of Windows, anyway.

Sony didn't want you to download songs to MD (from a CD that you no longer have) and then keep making copies thereof, without considerable effort.

You could try and fake a TOC of the right length (search TOC cloning on this forum) that allows the tracks to be uploaded. But i've never done it. Probably someone here has. If you have lots of disks, be prepared for lots of work.

I see you're in my home town. Send me a PM if you like and we can talk later by telephone.
