Hi folks,

My CD Dad3 Cyrus player has his optical lens kaput, I am sorry not finding a guy in HCM city ready to change it as they don't now this brand name... Maybe I will be lucky one day.

So I don't have right now a good CD player at home. Nethertheless, I can buy a new one in a huge choice of second hand CD players. From the very basic level to high-end models (10$ to more than 1500$).

I have my minidisc deck Sony JB980 pleasantry.gif so I was wondering why buying a CD player if I don't realy need it (all my new recordings are done with my optical out laptop / Winamp / DFX audio enhancer and Flac files...). And I have two MD bookshelves with CD players.

But as the price here could be very attractive, please advise me why YOU would still get a high-end CD player.

some choice :

CEC CD-3300 = 200$ i-m_so_happy.gif

SONY CDP XA30ES = 155$

SONY CDP X33ES = 205$

well I still have my Sony CDP-XB930E. It should be possible to pick one up cheap these days. Nicely made, and sounds good (to my ears) It has various filters to shaope the digital stream. Same pricing level as the 940/980 minidisc. The distinctive thing about this player is that the cd is held flat by a heavy metal magnetic puck, which rests on top of the cd near the centre - so you need to make sure it comes with one. I understand that getting a replacement is very expemsive. This player has the links that allow you to copy cd text. It is quite heavy.

It may be old, but the CDP XA30ES would be my choice from those three. If I could find one, I'd get a CDP-XA55ES. From what I have heard of Sony CDPs of that general vintage, don't expect anything too "laid back" - they are often said to have a very "forward" sound. This is definitely true of my Sony CDP-CA70ES changer and was also true of the CDP-CA7ES I had. If those prices are USD and the units are in excellent condition, I think they are reasonable (I don't know about the CEC, but it seems to be pretty well-regarded).

As to why I'd still get a high-end CDP - I have many CDs, for one thing, and also I think a good CDP might have a slight audio edge on even a good MD deck. Besides, I like the artwork and "look and feel" of CDs. Bonne chance avec ceci, Philippe!

First I have decided to bought second-hand loudspeakers. Sansui S-7XV I have found for 200$ (they sound like end 80's Rega Ela with my CyrusIIIi).

Then I will be ready for any new CD player. Better an Sony ES if I can I can get a synchro recording with my JB980...

Great pic PhilippeC! It's fun to see your rig!

Very kind of you Azureal but it is my rig. This picture came from a vietnamese audio shop. The Sansui speakers are not yet in my house, maybe in two or three days more. But I will take a picture with them, my Cyrus IIIi and my Sony JB980 once everything set up.
