Disc/Group/Track naming tutorial

Hi Everyone

First time post, I have a question.

I'm using a Sony MDS-JE780 to record all my 12" albums but I'm having a real problem using the manual to work out how to do the naming of the discs.

Is there a tutorial anywhere that gives you a sort of "Idiots Guide" to this.

Thanks for your help.

Alfie

Have you tried or considered using a PC keyboard to do the titling on your deck? Much simpler and less fiddly than using the remote. You need one with a (round) PS/2 connector rather than the more common USB type. Even simpler would be to use if you can install that on a PC and connect your deck or a NetMD/Hi-MD portable. Otherwise I don't know of a simple guide to titling apart fom slogging through the manual.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to reply. Yes I have a keyboard, but it's not the typing I'm having a problem with it's actually getting around the system. I don't seem to be able to create a disc name and a group name.

I can get Disc/Track and I can get Group/Track but I cant get it to do Disc/Group/Track which the manual implies it should do. The manual also says you can add Tracks to a Group and I can get it to do that but then I can't give the disc a name.

I'm trying to get Disc/Group/Track as in Classical/Elgar/Enigma Variations for example.

Thanks again for your help.

I'll have a look at the Sonicstage manual.

Regards

You have to use the GROUP button on the NetMD decks. My 980 has a "group on/off" button, and if you turn ON groups you will find there is a new option in the Edit menu.

Probably easiest to use the buttons to navigate and the keyboard for text rather than trying to do it all with the keyboard. However there IS a keyboard template filed under the JB940, actually.

Maybe this will do; there's nothing about creating groups in it... makes me think you HAVE to do it as I described above. Maybe the hard concept is that you yourself CANNOT create an *empty* group. The manual explains how you can make a group with (e.g.) tracks 4 through 8.

For sure, if you record with groups on, then the tracks will be in a group. Or, as Kevin points out, use Sonic Stage.
