From the local trash generator for 20 quid but no remote with it, but i discovered my JE-440 will operate it.

What i'd like to know is does the 440 remote cover everything that the 930 can.

I've tested it and it seems to work flawlessly, and a big plus is being able to connect a keyboard.

Also having 2 digital ins and 1 out plus coax in and out is fantastic.

I do have a question about the coax, when i connect a coax from coax in on the 930 to coax out

on my Sky hd box i get the old dinunlock c71.Is this Sky stopping me recording the audio?

I've also sent off for a generic 440 remote from these people, thought the link might be handy

if anyone is after a remote.http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005S5GKTW

Except that (of course) there's no MDLP on the 930, that sounds like a reasonable assumption.

Yup. Most likely. Or the output format of the Sky box needs to be configured to something the MD understands.....

Thanks for the info.I have a query about recording vinyl from my turntable to the 930 as in how do you do it.

On the back of my turntable there's only left and right phono's which go to a pre amp and then into the back

of the amp.

Was wondering if there was a way with only 2 phono's on the back of the turntable.

Just noticed you've got a 980,is this one the top banana of the MDS.

You can't use the direct output.

a. the level is microvolts instead of millivolts

b. the (in)famous RIAA equalization curve has to be applied to bring things back to linear from the rather skewed signal actually recorded on gramophone records

Both of these things happen in the "phono" section of a decent amplifier.

The 980 is very nice but by no means the top banana. It has Type-S but that probably only really makes a big difference with analog output. The 940 is in between yours and mine, and does have some options with wordlength etc. as well as supporting MDLP.

There are also some ES models (eg MDS-JA333ES) that are even better, supposedly (I don't have one), and some Pro models which have nifty features like SCMS defeat. That hardly matters once you can upload to a PC using MZ-RH1.
