Ryno1234
I had purchased brand new MZ-RH1 and used only once for a specific purpose. I had no need for the unit any longer and decided to list it for sale on EBay. Unfortunately my buyer has received the device but while trying to perform optical recording, is receiving errors during the "writing" step. I'd like to see if anyone here can assist or might know of a reason this would be occuring. I'd prefer to have a happy buyer! Below is a step-by-step of how is he going about doing the recording: Brand new Sony "Lumina Series 74" MD, same MD works fine with JVC desktop MD system and Denon DMP-R70Sony power supply to MD bodyOptical cord from CD source (line out) to MD (lne in)Insert MD, shows "blank disc"Start CD on source, pause and press REC on MD, red indicator light is on and starts recording.Play CD, shows recording. After a track of time. stop MD and start writing data. Then it takes about 3-5 minutes and shows writing error message with beeping sound from headphone. Has anyone experienced this? Are there certain types of disks necessary for doing this type of writing? Any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated. Thank you! PhilippeC
Who can repair such a MD in USA ? Only those I know who would be able to do the job for cheap money : - sfbp in Canada, who has good knowledge to care of most basic electronic problems - jonathanpatate in France (web site Laserdisc Plaza) who has like sfbp a good experience in MD units problems - phamcu in south Vietnam who is a professionnal, specialize in MD decks (but he has all the electronic stuff to adjust a laser) - jim.hoggart in UK who is also a professionnal, specialize in MD portable units (SP and MDLP generations) Unless you can find somebody in USA who can do the job for cheap money, it is perhaps better to negociate a discount with your buyer. I know it because he asked for mine, phamcu is looking for such a faulty unit for less than 100$.
jim.hoggarth
Probably the optical pickup assembly at fault. It may also be the servo electronics or RF amplifier on the main board. I doubt it affects only recording from the optical input, more likely it is a random problem and it just seems that the optical input is part of the problem, but of course I don't know how many times you have recorded from optical and from line and/or USB to prove there is a definite correlation. It can be fixed, but it won't be cheap. Unless it is something simple, such as debris in the sled drive gearing (yes, this is possible - I have seen several units disable by mere fluff trapped between the teeth of the sled reduction gear and the sled shaft helical gear). But if you need a repair there are few places you can go. And unfortunately not in the US, unless someone knows better? Jim

jonathanpotato
"jonathanpatate" in France is "jonathanpotato" here ! Some ideas : For the MZ-RH1, more tests are needed. The payer can play an entire SP recorded disc without problem ? This can detect a sled problem like jim said. Finally, the recorded MD with errors is blank ? Go to "A Solution To Blankdisc And Recording Problems" topic. In first, if it's not dirty inside the player, I think you should try cleaning the lens and the OWH. You can also "test" the OWH coil with a multimeter (4-6 ohms). Edited January 14, 2012 by jonathanpotato
