Arr-Nine-Hundred
So this week I snagged a bunch of MiniDiscs from a chap selling them on Gumtree. For our American cousins, Gumtree is somewhat like "Craigslist". There were well over 100 discs which I got for £10. So thats less than 10p per MD. Most are 74min discs but there were about 30-odd quality branded 80-min discs which I value more. The seller was a DJ/presenter type dude and there is a huge array of music he's put on there. I am not going to wipe them right away as he suggested I take a listen as there may be something I like. Anyway there's something... kinda strange about listening to others peoples music. I almost regard it as rummaging through their "personal data". Thought I'd share some photos: Exhibit A - notice the "Jimi Hendrix" disc and "Red Snapper - Drum & Base". Also "Adam Freeland - Live" (unsure if this was a stealth recording, I will have a listen) Exhibit B - he has added some distinctive "album art" to some of the MiniDisc casings. It really made me think of creating my own custom art. I normally don't use the MD cases preferring to keep my discs loose in a wallet. Hot pink MD is there because my daughter liked it. Exhibit C - Smashing Pumpkins, Bill Hicks (again, maybe a live stealthr ecording?), a couple of the classic TDK XS-iV Design Line discs and... "The Definitive GROOVY Minidisc" - I ain't ever recording over *that* :-) Exhibit D - TDK MD-RXG looking badass in the foreground. I love those discs. Love the purple Sharp 80-minuters on the left. A single Sony MD with the large "80" on the metal sleeve - never seen that design before. Oh and a selection of discs that he has labelled for your perusal. No idea what these artists are, again some "live" recordings here. So, check your local Gumtree site in your area for "MiniDisc warez". sfbp
Here in Canada they just "did away" with the "penny" (our affectionate name for the cent). We have now to round every cash transaction up or down, so a "nickel" ($0.05) is our smallest negotiable increment. Except for bank accounts and we all know how the banks steal from us, having no need for the odd 0.03 when they can charge $39 per month for some non-service. footmobile
Great haul, particularly jealous of the Lavelle and Shadow live recordings. No, don't record over them, they look really unique.
bluecrab
When I bought a used head unit (on one of this board's predecessors), the seller included a big bunch of discs he'd recorded. I was introduced to some new material that way and I still have some of the discs. IIRC, something similar happened with another unit, head or otherwise, that I bought online somewhere. Definitely give a listen! Nice haul.
