jimbiggut
Hi, I am hoping you guys can help. I recently installed SS4.3 along with Win7 X64 driver and all installed fine. NetMD is detected by Win 7 and SS4.3 shows Net MD in transfer option. when i select Netmd, SS4.3 hangs - no files detected. My only option then is to end via task manager as SS4.3 will not respond. I have uninstalled/reinstalled several times with no success. I am using Win7 x64 Ultimate and connecting via usb ( I have tried both on board usb 2 and 3 and also usb powered hub) Any help would be gratefully accepted
sfbp
The title of your post.... STOP RIGHT THERE!!! You can not transfer anything from an MD to the PC using an MZ-N710. Sorry. There may be other problems but if that's what you need to do, you are out of luck. However it probably should not hang. Suggest quite strongly that you plug your 710 into its power adapter (wall plug). Hope this helps.
jimbiggut
Many thanks for the prompt reply, however when I first used my MD recorder (on XP pro a couple of years ago) I was able to transfer music to and from the MD with no issues. Having updated to Win 7 x64 I was unable to use the orig SS software that came with MD and I was delighted to find the SS4.3 software with x64 bit drivers so I could re-aquaint myself with the MD . The discs I currently have recorded have been created this way, but is the problem that these tracks have not been 'checked out' by SS on the current O/S ? When I first installed SS 4.3 ultimate a couple of days ago it did detect and list tracks on the MD, just would not transfer, when I tried again the next day - no track lists showing on the MD side of SS- hence the re-installs. Now although MD is available in dropdown to transfer, as soon as i select (highlight), the software locks and i just get a spinning 'egg time /halo'. I have the unit plugged into the mains. Thanks again for any help
sfbp
when I first used my MD recorder (on XP pro a couple of years ago) I was able to transfer music to and from the MD with no issues ABSOLUTELY NOT! What you may well have done was delete the tracks from the MD when the computer still had a copy of the track. I guarantee nothing was ever transferred from the MD to the PC using this unit. For that, you need an MZ-RH1, it's the only one that will allow it. Even then it won't get the tracks transferred FROM your PC to the minidisk. Sorry. I'm sorry your connection via USB is not working; if you really need to copy files from MD to PC, no one can help you. If your purpose is to remove tracks from the MZ-N710, then we have a slightly different problem - how to format the disk. I haven't tried this for a while but I believe you can do that from the unit not connected to anything (except mains). If you need to transfer new songs to your portable, we will try to help, of course. You will not be able to recover tracks from your MD, not in any obvious way. There are some tricks, but they all involve playing them via the analog output, or purchasing an MD deck with optical output built in. jimbiggut
Thanks Inquisitor, We may be at cross purposes on this however I can assure you that I was able to 'check out/check in' music files using NET MD and SS via USB ( I have to admit it has been a while and I had to check the manual to confirm it was possible) I currently have 60 or so MD's with music (mainly LP4 format) ' checked out' onto the NET MD, and finding the SS 4.3 gave me a glimmer of hope that I could recover them. Looks like I am gonna have to wave the white flag on this and go down the long, labourious route of transfering via sound card back onto PC (unfortunately the HDD with the original files bit the dust a while ago) I really appreciate your time on this. Thanks again
sfbp
Exactly. Check out is not the inverse of check in. Checking in merely deletes the file on the md and increments the transfer count on the pc. Turns out, for everything except titles from the Connect Store (Sony's albatross), they gave up caring about transfer count. So unless you have the hard disk, you're hooped. It might be faster to start from the original CDs, assuming they were yours to begin with. Sony's protection was to ensure that people couldn't copy files onto MD from a borrowed CD, and then in some fashion recreate enough of that CD (at a lower quality presumably) to avoid the need to purchase the real thing. It's all about $$$$ in the end. Some, if not most, CD manufacturers resolutely refuse to put CD-Text on their CDs, presumably because the presence of the metadata makes them a better target for ripping off. Hence gracenote which, ironically, got acquired by Sony. So they're not all bad.
