TonyCH
Hi everybody, I recently bought a JA-555ES but unfortunately it arrived broken. Most probably rough handling by post office and too little padding in the box. When I plug the mains cable to the wall I can hear 2 relay-like clicks from the unit but then nothing. Its dead and unresponsive (no lights, no display, no reaction to buttons or remote). It does get warm though. I called Sony cervice center and they were not sure if they can still get parts for it. The tech didn't recognize the model and didn't find it in his computer so he asked me to bring it in and then they can check the unit and parts availability. But, I don't know if I should bother as I do have an option to return it. Do you know if parts are still available today? And what is the likelyhood to get something like this fixed? Thanks, Tony
sfbp
Standby red light on when you plug it in? If not then powersupply. I personally would return it. These units are horribly overpriced IMO. You might find someone to fix it but the shipping charges will kill you, it is so heavy. Just my $.

punkrockaddict
Afaik there are sometimes Lasers in the bay. SO now that we can just guess what´s wrong with the 555 i should share a story of a JE480 Deck i once bought very cheap as defect. It showed nearly exactly the same signs.. just 2 times click from its relais and a stand by led .I opened it up and the defect part jumped into my eye immediately. It had a cracked power supply board .. nothing bad at all.I fixed it and it came back to life at once after the glue was stick. I think you should open it up and take a look.Maybe share a pic with us from the Power board itself 4 example. Parts would be very hard to get, even from a defect unit you would pay lots of cash without knowing it turns out good. keep an eye on the PSB ^^
TonyCH
Hi, thanks for your reply. I don't want to open it at this point as the seller is still offering a refund. If parts availability is poor then its a too big of a risk to start tinkering with it - I might just end up with a boat anchor. So, I wil return it. punkrockaddict
why not open it up? That´s just some screws ? There´s no harm if you do this careful enough.Once you know what is possibly defect you could ask for a refund and do a repair , not? May i ask what you paid for it ?
