Arr-Nine-Hundred
I got this recently - a boxed and complete MZ-R91. Not usual for me to go for a non-MDLP unit but I got this for £10 and it was complete & boxed, all papers and cables etc. The "MEGA BASS" mark reminds of the Sony cassette Walkman units. Sony always seemed to liberally emblazon that logo on those. Anyway, this seemed like a good opportunity to grab a piece of the MD legacy. I think this was the unit just before the MZ-R900 (my favourite) so it is interesting to compare. The unit condition is not bad, scuffs around the edges. Unfortunately the gumstick is completely dead (sidenote: wasn't there some way to "resurrect" these by charging them in certain units?) and there were no MD disks with it. Check out the second photo to see the older-style 3V charger against the new. They really slimmed it down. The new style seemed to come with the NetMD units onwards. Not sure which is best in terms of reliability.
sfbp
You probably may need to get serious about cleaning terminals. That very model, made in Japan, is the recommended fixer of gumsticks. Mind you, when I got mine, it was in about the same state. I suspect you may prefer the "heavier" charger though I have no clue if it actually delivers more "oomph".
