mangochipps
I have a small project for which I need a DAC to get audio from an optical output to the line in on a PC, and I happen to have an old R37 laying around. I know some of the nicer recorders had a mode just for this that bypassed the need for a disk, but my understanding is that the R37 needs to be in record-pause mode to be used this way.My question is, will this harm the recording head? According to the minidisc.org FAQ, portables don't spin the disc until you press record, so the recording head shouldn't incur any wear from this. But I wanted to ask someone more knowledgeable just in case. I'm not overly attached to this unit, but I would like to avoid killing it if at all possible. sfbp
I'd buy one of these:http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-USB-External-6-Audio-Optical-Digital-Sound-Card-Box-Adapter-PC-Laptop-Skype-/252053417794Or something comparable. The mechanism of the portable will NOT enjoy being in permanent record mode. A deck, yes, but the little devices like the one above will do the trick.
mangochipps
That's a shame. I'll check out USB sound cards instead. Thank you for the suggestions!
