New Sony Vaio CS Series?

Rate this question

Question

Hello,

I've just come back from PC World as I wanted to take a closer look at their Vaios. I'm very keen on the CS Series 14.1" (with Blu-ray) but they only had one left - I asked the sales assistant and he tells me that it's because they are expecting a new line of Vaios in the next couple of weeks. Is this true? If so, should I wait and see? I'd be a bit gutted if I were to spend so much only for a new version to come out soon after.

Has anyone get any information on any new Vaios CS series coming out in the next month or so? I'd really appreciate any advice on this please.

Thanks

Adair

maybe it is just a refresh? new cpus only? unless sony is willing to add the new nvidia chipset into the CS?

Any actual major refresh would occur in the fall if the intel roadmap is still on target and has not been pushed back.

Thanks - I may get one now! Only concern with this laptop is the Nvidia 9300 only 128MB. I've currently got a Nvidia 7600 on a two year old laptop and it isn't great. Do you know how the 9300 128MB compares against a 7600 256MB? If it's even just a little better then I'd be happy.

Thanks again

Not too sure where you are from (the fact you said PC World I’m guessing UK!) in the UK, the current new model CS-series model is 21. (VGN-CS21Z for example) they are a couple of weeks old and have introduced the new colour purple and the only one to have Blu-Ray is the Black model, unlike before was the Red and Brown models. The new 21 model’s also all have a 2.00ghz processor instead of the 2.26ghz that was on the pervious 19 CS model. I think the CS series might be phrasing out by the end of the year to make way for a new C series or not get rid of the series altogether. It's a shame as the CS series has been a lovely VAIO.

The 7600 256MB is slightly better in performance than the 9300 128MB, not just by the fact it has more GDDR3 RAM but a 600 series is usually better than a 300. But it might not support DirectX10 and a few other features that nVidia introduced later in the year. It is proberly better suited for Windows Vista.

Hope this helps,

Regards, Shanie.
