Hello,  I'm hoping I can get some advice or assistance to repair the 'jog' button on my Hi-MD MZ-DH 710.

The button which adjusts volume, previous/ next and 'enter' has come loose.  It is in place but flops around and does not connect with the functions.

Has anybody fixed one of these multi function jog buttons.  Several models have them.  Any help is welcome and appreciated.   Thank you.

I can't offer help on this model, but i recall something similar with an NH700.

You'll have to take it apart. Inside the lid the switch board is probably secured with a couple of screws. We're hampered here by not having an exploded diagram from the service manual, but you might benefit from the fact that these designs kindof evolved... yours being a later one than said NH700.

Not much use but don't panic yet.

Kind regards

Stephen

Thank you,

Yes, a service manual would be helpful ; a pretty exhaustive search yielded nothing.  I was very surprised when the
button suddenly went limp.  I did have the impression that it was a well designed and tested version; a little larger that

than on other models.

OK, I just took a look at the NH 600, 700, 800, and 900 service manuals and I don't see anything about how
the jog dial and 5 way button are assembled or a view it's component parts.

I'll have to remove the lid carefully and see if anything obvious is revealed.   I recall taking the lid off an NH 900
because the menu button won't bring up the menu when pushed and held, except on a rare a occasion, and I
couldn't see anything to fix.  That one is probably not a mechanical issue but something with the circuitry and beyond my skills.

Well, I was able to remove the lid from my MZ-DH 710 and then remove the circuit board from the lid.  The part is the same as shown in the RH 900 service manual:, I have a non-functioning RH 900 to experiment on.  Unfortunately, the exploded diagram showing the 'jog dial' and '5 way control key' is a tease.  The entire switch control is a single sealed unit and soldered solidly to the circuit board.    I imagine that if one ever went in for repair, the entire circuit board would be replaced.    Bummer! , especially so because there is no remote for this mode and it doesn't have even have enough heft to be a paper weight.

Thanks for the assistance.  Maybe I'll send it to some Sony repair facility and see if they react in any way.
