Question about NW-S7xx noise cancelling

Question

I would like the know if the NW-S7xx noise cancelling also works when you are not listening to music, and just use the device for noise cancelling.

If yes, does anyone have experience with the way it supresses traffic noise?

(Every morning when I go to work I walk through a beautiful little park, unfortunately a large highway is situated right next to it.

It would be nice to have a walkman that also can give me a quiet moment here).

Hi Dura,

There isn't an option to simply just turn on the noise canceling function without music on.

BUT there is a trick.

Simply let the player shuffle the songs (actually playing the songs of course) and reduce your volume to 0.

Now you have your noise canceling function on just to have peace in your mind without noise or music.

This is the way I do all the time when I am in a library studying with some noisy people around me.

I hope this helps.

I don't think it's a good idea to block outside noise while walking outside.

Anyway, you can purchase a standalone ear/headphones with noise cancelling circuitry. Probably cheaper than buying the NW-S7xx just for that specific purpose.

I totally disagree with you there, pata2001. Sometimes having the chance of blocking out traffic sounds and shouting people is heaven, especially when you find yourself in pleasant surroundings, like a park, or trying to work, like in a library. PEACE is priceless!!! :) Of course whilst riding a bike on the road, it's not such a good idea!

It's just a shame that we have to rely on modern technology to attain this nowadays :(

But I also have a question regarding this player. Is there a big difference in quality between the NW700 and the NWe005 players? I'm tempted to buy the new player, but if there's no real difference in sound quality, I'm prepared to stay with my trusty E005. (I can cancel out a lot of noise with my sennheisers).

Hi wichi, well theres a tonne of difference between the E005 and the 706.

The 706 is heaps better in all aspects and sounds like nothing before. The earphones that come with it are simply outstanding in all aspects.Great battery life, great sound, clearbass,VPT,good looks, and NC which actually works.

For you dura all i wanna say is that by all means go for the 706 as it is simply outstanding among the current crop of players. It shall perfectly do the job of cutting out noise.

You also have the option of going for BOSE QC3 which are about 600 aussie dollars. No mp3 player supplied!!!!!!

Hi wichi, as far as i know there IS a volume limiter on the EU version.

My RH1 bought in australia had it too.I hacked it though.

AU doesnt have the volume cap reg but it was funny to see that.My NW-S706F though was loud and clear.

Wonder wats wrong.

Thank you very much, especially Zizone, good tip.

Don't worry Pata, in my country cars and pedestrians have different parts of the road. :)

I'm seriously considering this player, for its sound quality, batterylife, tuner and nc.

And, uh, for its looks.

But I already own a NW-HD1 and a NW-A3000 and I've Shure E4s, which give an good passive nc by nature, so buying the 7xx is not the most sensible economical thing to do.

But I want one...

Dura,

You should definitly hear an improvement over the A3000 with an S70*

You can also adjust the sensitivity of the noise cancelling microphones too.

Zizone thanks for the zero volume listening tip.
