A frustrating problem with NW-S705F

Question

I've just bought sonys NW-S705F, and i find the player itself, and the earbuds, and the sound quality just as good as expected. My problem lies in the fact that i cannot list the files like i want to (or perhaps i just dont know how to). I had a sonys NW*i dont remember the number, and the little plastic thingy fell off, so i cant see what model it is* but its 512 mb of space were starting to be a bit to small for me so i decided to upgrade. The old player had the possibillity of creating folders, and then dragging your songs around as you please inside sonic stage. When using the walkman, i could then change between the folders, making it easy to get the music i wanted. I see a similar feature in my new walkman, but this uses the albums as folders and doesnt give me any other way to organize my music. I only want a couple of songs from each CD, and then i wanna stuff the tracks from several cd's into the same folder named Elektronica, or rock, or whatever. But this seems impossible?! I've spent the most of my evening trying to find an alternative program that would do it, or finding some other clever way to do it. But i cant find anything. Can it be true that the only way to scroll trhough tracks is either alfabetically as they are sorted automatically, or switching from folder to folder? (or using the shuffle, but i wanna be able to get to the type of music im looking faster. When im tired i dont wanna suddenly bump into Heavy metal f. x.)

This is killing me, and even though the player itself is great, im seriously thinking of returning it. Its quite possible that its just me overlooking something (oh god i hope so!), or perhaps there is a tweak out there that could help me. I sincerely hope you know what to do about this, because its driving me insane here.

Thanks in advance, -Ralle

in sonicstage,

in the mylibrary box, on the right side you see a small box to select called create/edit playlist. Select that.

list of current playlist section will open on the right side.

now on left side (my library column), select all the songs you want and click the blue arrow, all selected song list will appear on right side, choose an appropriate name for the current list and select close edit.

now on the left most column, select view as albums/playlist.

my library will show all the playlist.

select appropriate ones, transfer to your device.

I dont know what is tough with this. This is how every other music player and s/w works. I have ipods, it is not any different.

Probably you are a beginner to playlist concepts, I guess. Have fun.

i didnt see the playlist button, because the rigth side was covered by the bar to transfer music to my device. I've never used sonic stage as a music player, and neither the program ipods use. My player is Foobar, which has a way easier and more intuitive interface (imo?). Also i've used winamps playlist with no problem at all. honestly, i think sonic stage is way slow, annoying and contraintuitive. And i've heard the same from other people to.

Aaanyway, thanks a bunch for your help :)

ralle,

in the topmost space (after file edit .....), do you see a blue tab with three columns

MUSIC SOURCE : MY LIBRARY : TRANSFER

please click MY LIBRARY in that , so that your entire window is occupied with MY LIBRARY. now you will see a small box called "create/edit playlist". This box will appear under MY LIBRARY in top left corner.

(I too dont see create/edit playlist when I have two columns MY LIBRARY column on the left and transfer on the right).

If you are not comfortable with this , go to help in sonicstage. press F1, the helpbook will open, in that go to search tab, search playlist and click on first result. you will get step by step procedure.

dont get biased by others view, it is not so.

Sonic Stage in its 2.x versions was slow, unreliable contra-intuitive and generally one of the worst pieces of software ever made. However, SS in its 4.x version is much much better and well usuable; not perfect, but good enough.

It's a pity people still repeat obsolete things that were true in the past, but not anymore.
