NW 3000 - Volume difference between tracks

I am currently having a problem with the volume between tracks on my NW 3000. For example one track will be loud, clear and perfect and the next will be quiet, muffled and dreadful. Is there a way in which I can normalise the volume over all tracks so they all play on the same level?

are your tracks Mp3 ?, you might want to check this out: http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net

They are WMA files because I rip my CD's to my external hard drive using WMP11 and then import the tracks I need into my Connect player and transfer from there.

I guess it was the way they were recorded originally.
