Question

Hi, I just bought my first Sony Mp3 player (not counting my old K750i sony ericsson). Of course the first thing I noticed was: I can't easily transfer files to and from the mp3 as it is with my K750i.

I read about GYM, about the mp3 jar transfer utility, etc... but I wanted to ask for something more definitive: is there a away to transfer files to and from my NW-E505 without having to install any application?

I tried the jar utility (with ffmpeg) and the music transfer can be played through the jar player but not the flash player: it gives me a "MG Error"

hope anyone can help this newb

thanks for the help... sonicstage keeps hanging if I turn on the "update artist info" option (I'm using 4.3 CP on Vista). Also I've been using iTunes to manage my song forever and I really think sonicstage can't manage the songs that efficiently. also I consume a lot of podcasts and sonicstage doesn't even support it...

I'll try the mp3 manager, but will it work on any computer without any drivers installed?

I reckon SS hangs as it likes to crash while updating AAC tags. Try to update only mp3s and see if this works better.

a side note: SS cannot possibly be compared to itunes. itunes runs circles around SS. it´s not even funny any longer.

well, now I have a problem with MP3FM: the files transfered can't be played "cannot play". I have it installed in a folder inside the mp3 player. I mean... These OLED sony player are gorgeous... even the interface (although not as easy and intuitive compared to iPod or Creative Zen) is gorgeous. but the lack for direct support for mp3 is astonishing...

This must be a problem with what I'm trying to do... because right now the only way I'm being able to load music to this player is through SS. Before I got this player I read there were third party hacks to let me be SS-independent...

EDIT: and it keeps hanging... even if I search only for mp3... maybe it is really about the search for artist info feature... I'm turning it off... Do you know if SS keeps looking for new songs even after the first time I add them to a given forlder on my computer? because this way I can still use iTunes to manage song on my computer and then launch SS to transfer any songs I want to my player.

Sonicstage will look for song when you add a CD to your media drive, but this is only when Sonicstage is running. Are you running Sonicstage behind a firewall. If yes have you allowed Omgjbox access to the internet?

I don't have any firewall installed except for the windows one... but usually if it blocks a given app it asks me to unblock it.

Also, SS stoped recognizing my mp3 player... so right now my E505 is a... small brick! maybe it was because I updated the firmware... but this whole experience is becoming the worst nightmare I have with gadgets...

Sony: your ability to create great looking products is as great as your ability to completely turn them into useless cr*p with your paranoid DRM. I'm thinking about returning this back to the store.

I had the same feelings when I initially bought my AW 1000. I returned it and went iPod for 2yrs. Now I am back with the S706.

I would try to uninstall SS and then install again. Perform a thorough uninstall as described in the guide available software forum.

That should do the trick.
