Question

Hi guys,

Forgot to mention I have had a good play with one of the 800 series and the video play back in exceptional, as it comes loaded with Spiderman 3 trailer and really does show it off!

I recommend it to anyone who wants a good all round player with video and picture play back

as mentioned earlier the video is easy to upload, just drag and drop in the window that comes up on screen under 'video' (or similar option).

The menu's are very easy to use and it looks very sexy! also if i can remember its actually a metal casing? dont quote me on that though

more info asap :)

If you think video playback on the A800 is WOW, maybe you haven't seen/used Cowon A2 yet (which was released in 2005, mind you). Cowon A2 has higher res screen (480x272), and support most divx/xvid playback without transcoding. Upcoming Cowon A3 will support .mkv files. Transcoding videos is a waste of time and definitely not user friendly.

Where did you get to play with this new toy?

People are dismissing the video capabilities of this player as a gimmick for the low-res screen & poor codec support. TBH, I don't see any point in watching video on any screen smaller than 15" & even then a decent TV is preferred. All video playback on DAPs is a gimmick.

Unfortunately at the time it was under embargo, so I was forbidden

I haven't had the chance to see the Cowon, is ti available in the UK?

I played with it at Sony UK, very very nice and for such a small screen it is very smooth and very crisp.

But yes, you do have to be right user for it, I would definately use it on the underground etc.

Many Thanks,

jonny mac,

seriously.. 15"?

I have a laptop with a 13.3" screen, and when I'm sitting in front of it watching video clips and/or movies, I find it to be quite sufficient. I do agree that portable DAPs with video capability can be kind of 'gimmicky' but I think when you're on the road, even the 12.1" laptops are great. 2"-5" not so much, but 12.1" is good

I don't think these are meant for watching in your room... I think it is meant for maybe watching the news or your favourite show on the bus/subway to work. For this function they are great, since they can go straight into your pocket, don't need to carry a laptop bag.

Considering similar price as Nano, having video option is a plus not something to be criticized. Also, it shouldn't be compared to Video Ipod but it should be compared to Nano for they share flash, similar size (though Walkman's screen is twice larger than Nano) and price. Yet, so many critics compare with Video Ipod because NW-A800 series plays video and I find this little bit odd...

Anyway, I agree video is kind of "gimmicky." But according to reviews I read, the video is pretty clear, good contrast.

After all, we can't expect 1080p HDTV on the subway until Sony invents screen that enlarges magically or something like vitual screen(?).

They will be pushed towards this type of market, they should be directly compared to a nano. As the sell up will be that you are paying £20ish pounds (in the UK) for video playback ontop of what the nano does.
