WMA transfer not working on SonicStage CP 4.3

Hi everybody,

I am using a nw-a1000, with firmware update 3.0, which supports Windows Media Audio natively.

All my CD collection is ripped on WMA VBR format. Using the last version of CONNECT player (1.0.04.16100), I can directly transfer them to the nw-a1000, without conversion to ATRAC format.

However, when I use SonicStage CP 4.3, the software converts the WMA file into ATRAC format before the transfer, which is very much time consuming. "Options" > "Transfer" > "Transfer settings" is set to "normal transfer".

Is there any way to transfer wma with SonicStage ?

Welcome aboard.

Yes, transcoding is long, it is fine if you prefer that ATRAC.

From the main menu change the setting as follows.

Tools --> Options

This opens the Options dialogue box.

Under Category select Transfer.

Under Device/Media select ATRAC Media Device.

Click on Transfer Settings.

Set Transfer mode to Standard Transfer Mode.

the OK to save the settings.

When SonicStage 4.3 install it seems to set the transfer mode to Specified bit rate transfer mode. SonicStage will import in various audio formats, but only transcode to ATRAC.

You have to set to transfer music "as is." Then you will be transferring songs without transcoding.

Clict tool box, then select option to transfer music "as is." I am not sure how it is exactly written in English because I am using Japanese SonicStage. The option should give you an explanation like "transfer music as is (MP3 to MP3 or WMA to WMA=no transcoding)."

I encountered similar scenario with SS4.3 sometimes. If you want to transfer Album/s with AAC (3gp, mp4, m4a), or Atrac, or MP3 format, or combination of the supported formats plus Album/s with WMA (192K VBR or V2) format, the WMA transfer will sometimes be skipped with error message, or converted to Atrac as default. So, I select the option "don't transfer if format does not supported" (paraphrased with Chinese SS4.3), and re-transfer (select autotransfer button again) the skipped WMA songs on error message at the later moment - it should be ok.

If you like SS4.3 AAC (LC), rename *.3gp to .m4a and enjoy it on other AAC supported players

Hi,

thank you for your replies.

In the Tools --> Options --> Transfer --> Atrac Media Device --> Transfer settings, I chose the "Standard Transfer Mode".

In the Advanced menu , for the "Standard Transfer Mode Settings", I selected : "do not transfer if format not supported".

However, I find the transfer rate is really slow on SS 4.3, compared to Connect Player.

for the same album, transfer takes:

-8 minutes using SS 4.3 !!

-30 seconds using Connect player.

I like the SS 4.3 user interface better, so I would appreciate to use it, but transfer takes really too much time... Do you have any possible explanation ?

Thanks again.

I agreed with that if the SS4.3 with the Intellectual shuffle artlink/year option enabled (via the Internet) together with alot of imported songs except CD ripped songs, it takes a long time of CDDB querying via Internet before transfer process and artlink updating. If you edit the artlink or year yourself, Disable the Internet search of Artlink Info, the speed will return to normal. This is my current practice of using SS4.3 instead of Connect. Per my experience, Connect update and transfer is faster than SS4.3 but no AAC and only very basic editing functions, furthermore sometimes the album entries may be duplicated after editing by SS4.3. Anyway SS4.3 is better than Connect with lots of encoding methods and friendly in use.
