I have sonic stage 4.3 and the sony NW-S706F player. I have used sonic stage to create some playlists but when i go to the player and choose playlists it goes straight to a song and not to the list of playlists. As I have named them in sonic stage shouldn't I be able to see the names on the player? the most I can get to is playlist 1 of 3.

The NW-S706 is unique in that manner. It does not display enough pertinent information for the user. The NW-S700/S600 series has two modes, Group and Track. The group can be album or playlist. To change between group you need to pull the dial-job all the way out and turn it. This will take you to the previous group, next group, or the beginning of the current group.

Pushing in the dial jog will display track.

Pulling out the dial jog will display group (album or playlist).

If you see a folder icon you are in group mode, which will only play songs in the group. Pressing the small button at the back of the unit will cycle through; group, repeat, group repeat, 1 repeat, repeat shuffle, repeat group shuffle, then normal. Make sure that the unit is in normal play back mode.

If you have more question please ask.

If you wish to transfer playlists, you have to transfer songs from playlist from the SonicStage to players. Simply transferring songs that are in playlist but not tranferring from the playlist does not create playlist on the player.

one of the member, theFanboy, wrote simple instructions for the playlist

"in sonicstage,

in the mylibrary box, on the right side you see a small box to select called create/edit playlist. Select that.

list of current playlist section will open on the right side.

now on left side (my library column), select all the songs you want and click the blue arrow, all selected song list will appear on right side, choose an appropriate name for the current list and select close edit.

now on the left most column, select view as albums/playlist.

my library will show all the playlist.

select appropriate ones, transfer to your device (by theFanboy)."

so basically,

1) click "Create/edit playlist" on the right side.

2) Choose songs for the playlist and transfer. Once you created playlist, close the playlist

3) on the left most column, select view as "albums/playlist"

4) from the "playlist," transfer to your device

Thank you! I hadn't worked out the in/out movement of the jog wheel before. i think you explained it rather better than the manual B)

Finally - someone's explained how to use the shuttle switch!! I've had my 706 for three months and have never figured out how to get into 'folder' mode. I did get there twice, but accidentally and I didn't know how to get out of it, although I did without knowing why.

Somehow I was able to view albums by every third one and wasn't able to select one in between. I learned later I was in 'folder' mode. I guess what you just said about pulling the switch in and out activates folder mode, something not explained very well at all in the 3-million user manual!

So thanks for that - I live and I learn!

In fact, the Jog Shuttle is what brought me into Sony flash players when I got my first flash player, Sony NW-E407 (until then I was using MDs). The Jog Shuffle is really simple to use and very convenient. I hope Sony will continue to make flash players with shape like NW-E and NW-S700 series with the Jog Shuffles. Oh, and please reduce hiss in players. Sony's MZ-RH1 is a very good example of no hiss and great sound quality. I am getting off topic but... My small wish.

One can say the playlist replaced folder (or "group," the term used by earlier SonicStage). So, I think you are trying to put songs with different artist in one folder instead of having songs categorized by artists thus having multiple folders.

In order to create playlist, which functions much like a "folder," (or "group") click a playlist box located in upper right corner from your SonicStage 4.3 (right next to the bar indicating amount of memory left in your computer). Once you click, you will have two sections, much like having list of songs in your computer on the left hand side and songs in your Walkman on the right hand side; only difference now is that right hand side is a playlist while the left hand side remains the same, songs in your computer. Now, you many move songs from your left hand song list into the right hand side, the playlist. Here, you many create folder and move songs with unrelated artists into that folder in any way as you please, including any song order. After you are done creating your playlist (or folder), close the right hand side list (the playlist) by clicking the box, which you clicked to open the right hand list (one that is next to the bar indicating amount of memory left in your computer).

Now, you probably want to transfer this particular playlist (folder) to your Walkman. To do this, click a box found in your far left hand side saying displaying mode, e.g. Album/songs, into Playlist. After this step, you will see the playlists (folders) you created previously. Then simply transfer this playlist into your Walkman like you would normally do. Now, you have songs in a way you wish.

To view the playlist in your NW-S705, click Playlist by accessing menu from your Walkman. By pulling Job Shuttle out, you will be seeing folders and by pulling Jog Shuttle in, you will be seeing songs within that particular folder.

If you have any further question, let me know.
