No player is truly what it is said to be. My HD1 is 20GB, yet started at 18.6GB. No 1GB player is really 1GB, it's normal.

Rob A has it right...

When it comes to flash or hard drive memory the numbering convention is strange. A 1GB player has 1,000,000,000 bits, which is not really 1GB (or approximately 107341800 bits). This is something that all manufacturers have done since atleast the introduction of the hard drive, may be even earlier.

Take the size of your media player and divide it by the number of GB by 1024 three times. This should match the number of GBs.
