Sony NW A806- Fastforwarding Feature

Question

Does anyone know a faster way of fast forwarding through song/podcast files.

On occassion I would inadvertently start a song/podcast back to the beginning of the file. To get back to my original listening point, I would need to pause the song and then press the right arrow key which will fast forward the song, however, this would take a very long time especially with a very large music/podcast file (over 5.0 hours).

Is there a faster way to do this?

This is one of my main complaints about the NW-A800 series. I wish that these media players had an index search, which would make it possible to go to an exact point in a track. Or even a 5 minute jump would be a welcome feature.

I am really surprise that you have tracks over 5 hours :o . The longest podcast I have is just over 56 minutes.

I think you are using the fastest method of doing cuing through a track.

Are you sure you have the song/podcast paused? There is a huge difference in speed if you FF while the song is still playing (as in very slow) and when you have it paused then FF (as in fast).

When playing a video there is an escalating FF. In this pic I've fast forwarded a video presentation x2. You can do x1 and x3 as well. You can see the 2 indicated to the right of the >>.

I can't get this to work in a podcast though. Can anyone else?

Lulu, this is how Sony was inconsistent in the design of the NW-A800 series. The functionality of the video and audio playback are different. With the video playback, no matter the videos play it will always go back the the exact point if you play another media. However, this is not the case with the audio playback. Anyways, the key sequence to increase the playback speed on for the video playback, will cause the audio playback to skip to the next track. I have not real complaint about this, but wish Sony would have designed the NW-A800 considering that users would listen to podcasts.

On the NW-A800 series, during playback you can cue through an audio file at intervals of about 3 seconds. However, during pause/stop you can fast forward at intervals that appear to be 10 seconds and a faster rate. I used cue and fast-forward to indicate the distinct nature of both modes.

Maybe we should start a wish list of things we would like fixed/added on the next generation of these units?

A few suggestions to start us off:

Similar functionality for all media:

  • Ability to delete videos directly from the player like audio
  • Incremental FF on video like with audio
Other features:

  • FM
  • Stop (not pause) button
  • Bookmark specific location on audio/video not just an individual audio file
Image converter
  • Playlists (like in SS) for video
  • Keyboard commands (e.g. pressing key delete will remove highlighted files)

What else? ?

Yes, I FF while song is still playing; excruciatingly slow. Although when paused, FF is faster but getting to midway point of a 5.0 hour radio MP3 file still takes alot longer than I would like (when compared to IPOD click wheel).........thx

My wish list would be more simple. Just a little more consistency in design of functionality.

The addition of a tag for audio files would be a great addition, and a quicker method of accessing specific point on a track. Also for SonicStage to stop returning the NW-A800 series from returning to the beginning of the first track. This always happens when connecting NW-A800 to SonicStage.

Oh I agree, it's really annoying to hear the same few seconds of the same song every time you disconnect. It's making me dislike the song!
