Can Sony NWA 808 Play WAV?

Question

So I have been getting into lossless music lately, (bought a 100gb HDD (1Terabyte)), and I am a little cheesed that this player doesn't play FLAC. I have been BURNING FLAC CD's and then ripping them into AAL, but people are saying that you can convert FLAC to WAV, and then WAV to AAL.

It would seem to me that there would be some signifigant quality loss in this process, because AAL isn't just a file container, it is a codec all on it's own if I am not mistaken. So, I am able to RIP music into WAV with WMP11 which I really like, but does anyone know if the NWA 808 can play WAV files. (I would try it but I am on vacation). Thanks in advance

NW-A800 series support AAC, MP3, WMA, ATRAC and ATRAC Advancd Lossless but not WAV.

Strage thing is that NW-E010 series support WAV but not ATRAC Advanced Lossless while NW-S700 series support both.

i have an 808 and it plays WAV just fine - unless i'm missing someth. - i import everything in to SS in WAV and transfer in 'orginal format' - so i'm putting WAV on to it, right...

Oh really? For some reason, Sony Japan does not list linear PCM...

Thanks Zizone, you just cleared something up for me. I could not understand why the files transferred to my 706 as PCM as I didn't think it supported it. Is PCM the same as WAV?

I think it is fair to say that WAV is adaptation of Windows for Linear PCM; and yes, NW-S700 supports both AAL and Linear PCM playback. :)
