Question

Checking the sonystyle.ca website shows no more 8 gig A8xx series on the site anywhere, no out of stock nothing. there was no mention of any a8xx 8 gig model for the canadian market in the sony press release, so I emailed sony canada. I got an email back stating so and so is out of the office until whatever. Still no reply and I emailed them last tuesday.

I briefly asked in the email why no 8 gig a800 series was being offered in canada, whereas the US gets all the new models so far. I also asked why sony canada had all the other models before the US, like A1000, A3000, S700 etc. and the US did not and now a change of procedure? I finished off my email by stating that the pricing in canada is also uneven when compared to US market and that I could easily go and buy an open sourced 8 gig A8xx from the US at the same price point as a 4 gig A8xx in Canada.

If I get no reply by wednesday, I will send it once more and then leave it be, and buy the player in the US and leave my money down there than in Canada. :P

The problem about the exchange rate is very annoying. They are selling many items at the Sonystyle.ca and Sony stores that are ridiculously overpriced when you compare them at the US site. C'mon Sony the dollar is almost the same!! If I need to buy anything I'm trying to get it directly from the States (Amazon.com rather than Amazon.ca for example). Even with the shipping costs I still save.

Sony isn't mainly the one to blame. If you look at everywhere in Canada, including big retail stores such as Best Buy and Future Shop, or even car dealers, they are all selling their products at high price, ignoring the currency rates.

I know australia is a diffrent market but it might be the same for canada, sony said no more A800's are being shipped out and the next shipment of players will all be the NWZ.

So you might be out of luck if you want ATRAC

sony canada is not getting the 8 gig nwz model, no further shipments are planned of any new player in the short term.
