travis442
I'm new to minidisc and I'm going to buy a recorder. I don't have a lot of money to spend around $230. I've found the MZ-N707 for $189 and I was wondering if that would be a good unit to start out on. My other question is, I know it doesn't have optical out, but i've also read that I could still hook it up to a home stereo. How do I do that? Do I just use the car kit that it comes with and plug it into the tape player on the home deck? I would appreciate your opinions and help! travis442
Mystyler
The N707 is a fine unit to start out with, it packs a lot of features for a nice price. It lacks digital out (as all but the first MD recorder did) but you can set it to analog line out, then you just connect it directly up to your Hi-Fi via a line cable (usually supplied) to the Hi-Fi's line in. me
Yes, the MZ-N707 is a good beginners unit. Plenty of features, I agree with Mystyler. It doesn't have a lineout mode, but just use a miniplug (1/8th inch) to either RCA or miniplug (depending on what your stereo uses as its line in). Guest Anonymous
i wanted to know what is the best way of getting the best quality out of my files of music when you put them onto the minidisk, could it be the USB or other option using the optical cable? (All my files are Mp3 on my computor)
Guest Anonymous
In my opinion, the absolute best quality would be to hook your MD up to an optical out source (say a CD player), and record in SP/real time to the optical input on your 707. That having been said, I rarely do that nowadays; I mostly rip CD's with Simple Burner or MP3 compilations using M3U2SBurner, both at LP4. I do notice the difference on some songs, but it's quite acceptable for me. And, in some cases (lp's that are over 30 years old), I notice no difference between an LP4 file and the original LP. Try both methods and see what works for you. Tom
