Good morning..my new sony  MZ-N707  comes with a charger and a nickel cadmium battery.  can the charger safetly accept a NIMH  battery.  No one I know uses the old style nicke cadmium batteries anymore. thanks stan

My friends N707 chargers NIMH without any problems. Check underneath, I think it says "Ni-MH/Ni-Cd charger" or something like that.

Thanks so much for all your courteous replies to my battery question... I have just rediscovered the mini disc..when I was about the buy a 20gig archos player/recorder. SOMETHING DEFINATELY HAD CHANGED! Three years ago my wife purchased one for me..but I quickl uy returned it because of its limitations...This one, the Sony MZ-N707 does everything I want it to do..BTW around the Boston area--all the units are virtually sold out this season. Last year, they couldn't give them away.

Happy holidays. Stan

Kronic, wasn't that kind of the question? The N707 unit automaticly stops charging when it's done, at least when charging the 700mAh NiCD-battery that came with it. Now, if you insert a 1800 mAh NiMH-battery, will it undercharge (based on time?) overcharge (based on some voltage-probing not meant for NiMH?) or be fully, but not over, charged (based on delta-V?)?

Hi! I just bought a N505 from canada, and I was wondering if it has the ability to recharga batteries and what type...I'm asking b/c there is no mention of this in the instruction manual BUT i accidently pressed the stop button that says "charge" underneath, and it looked as tho it was charaging my batteries! thanks so much!

I did some try with different NiMH batteries. With up to 1400 mAh all is ok. With greater mAh values (i.e. 1700 or 1850) there is a great heat production so I guess that the stop charge detect system does not properly work.

I belive that the charger is "tuned" for NiMH batteries very similar to Sony NH-WM2AA that is 1400 mAh
