sturob
I know the whole can-you-upload-MD-to-PC thing is HASHED and reHASHED, but I was wondering . . . Anyone used the Edirol UA-1D SPDIF (optical and coaxial) box to sample digital audio into a PC? Looks like it would do the trick. Looks like it works on the Mac or on a PC. Bazirker
I don't think that would work because MOST md units don't have any type of digital output. If the md unit had a type of digital output, it would work. Dude that thing is cool! What's the purpose of the USB part of it? Where can you buy one, and how much? sturob
The USB is the whole point of it; it's to allow you to record a digital source directly to your computer. Maybe I don't understand what you're asking . . . An analog version is about $75, and the digital version (the one I talk about above) is about $100. Minidisco.com has them, as do most places that sell Roland gear. Stuart
Bazirker
Oh. Well that is very cool!
highlandsun
Only $100? Geeze, to think I paid almost $300 for my USB MD-Port 2+ years ago, and it only supports 44.1khz. I think it's time to upgrade... Would be nice to have a multi-rate digital input. Too bad it only does 16-bit audio though.
bmanalansan
http://www.audioamigo.com/ediua1d.html For the same product @ $89.95 and free shipping. I just bought one.

Guest Anonymous
While on the subject, there's always a C-Media 8738 sound card - which has inferior analog section, but _beautifully_ done digital sections - (except for LX version, which lacks digital i/o). Can be had on ebay for ~$5US (You'd also need an additional header/bracket with SPDIF coaxial/optical inputs and outputs). Samples at 44.1 and 48 kHz 24 bit. (I'm not sure now, but I beleive mine worked with 32 kHz, too. Sold my DAT, you see . Do a bit of research - here's some links: http://www.cmedia.com.tw/doc/CMI8738_spdif.pdf http://www.cmedia.com.tw/doc/cmi8738_6ch_datasheet.pdf As a side note, I became aware of the MD format because of that chip - it was built into a really cheap SiS motherboard, and while looking for new drivers for it on c-media site, I stumbled upon "use your card to record digitally to/from MD" page they had at the time. 1999, it was... I just resent the fact that one has to pay upwards of $100 to get digital audio i/o for PC, and I've never seen anyone mention this chip... Just my $0.02.
