The USB is the whole point of it; it's to allow you to record a digital source directly to your computer. Maybe I don't understand what you're asking . . .

An analog version is about $75, and the digital version (the one I talk about above) is about $100. Minidisco.com has them, as do most places that sell Roland gear.

While on the subject, there's always a C-Media 8738 sound card - which has inferior analog section, but _beautifully_ done digital sections - (except for LX version, which lacks digital i/o).

Can be had on ebay for ~$5US (You'd also need an additional header/bracket with SPDIF coaxial/optical inputs and outputs).

Samples at 44.1 and 48 kHz 24 bit. (I'm not sure now, but I beleive mine worked with 32 kHz, too. Sold my DAT, you see :).

Do a bit of research - here's some links:

As a side note, I became aware of the MD format because of that chip - it was built into a really cheap SiS motherboard, and while looking for new drivers for it on c-media site, I stumbled upon "use your card to record digitally to/from MD" page they had at the time. 1999, it was...

I just resent the fact that one has to pay upwards of $100 to get digital audio i/o for PC, and I've never seen anyone mention this chip...

Just my $0.02.
