krymson
I have some internet radio shows i downloaded ( car talk) that I like to put on my minidisc. Currently I'm using LP4 recording, but is there a way to get Mono LP2 or 4? Let me see, that would be about 10 hours with the lp4 rite? Bazirker
to reconfirm what "me" said, the md player doesn't allow lp2 mono recordings while lp4 mono is impossible. while lp2 records in stereo, lp4 does not; it uses a different type of recording called joint-stereo. it takes the similarities between the left and right channels and rather than encoding them twice (once in each channel,) it just records them as one channel. In a way, it compresses the stereo imaging.
Guest Anonymous
I'm interested in the comments about stereo recording in LP4 mode. Where did this information come from. I'm listening to a MD recording made in LP4 and I'd swear it's true stereo!

Guest Anonymous
Bazirker, from your description, I think it's a safe guess that LP4 uses Intensity Stereo rather than the more common Joint Stereo (which is a combination of Mid/Side Stereo and True Stereo as you call it (L/R Stereo). clonmult
LP4 is joint stereo, in EXACTLY the same way as MP3 encodes it. On most regular pop music, you can't tell the difference between "true" stereo and joint stereo. I'll try and put my Ali Demeola guitar stuff onto Lp4. I doubt it'll cope. daxuwei
Yes, Mono mode is same with LP4 in recording time, 'cause LP4 is joint-stereo, so a 80 MD could only record 320 min data.
