Guest Anonymous
...does anyone else have one yet? I've had it for about a week and I like it. Its obviously an entry level recorder so doesn't have some of the cooler features like backlit LCD and the remote is very basic. Its light and looks good (apart from the plastic back), sound quality is excellent even with the basic headphones. Sonic Stage seems to work well, MP3s and CD audio, no serious problems yet. One slightly annoying thing I've encountered. There seems to be no discernible difference between Normal play mode and Group Normal play mode. I never owned a MZ-N505 but it was my understanding that in Group play the MD will play the tracks in the currently selected group and finish after the last track in the group. With the MZ-N510 playback continues on to the next group and then the next and doesn't finish until the last track on the MD. I find this a bit of an inconvenience if say I just want to listen to one album on the MD (especially if I'm listening just before going to sleep and I don't want the MD going on for 2 hours); I get round it by moving the group to the end so that playback stops at the end of that group. Is this a change from previous NetMDs? Overall though, I would say it is good introduction to minidiscs and shows the advantages of the NetMD format extension very well. Any thoughts or questions? Guest Anonymous
... Any thoughts or questions? What is the output (?mW/?ohms) according to the manual? What battery does it use?
zeromd
also what software does it include besides sonicstage?
Guest Anonymous
Output specs as follows: 2.5mW + 2.5mW; load impedance 16 ohms (European models) 5mW + 5 mW ; load impedance 16 ohms (other models) It uses one AA battery, and comes with one NiMH 700mAH supplied. Only Sonicstage 1.5 comes with the recorder, and the NetMD driver. I don't think Sony want Simple Burner to be used anymore. I will happily provide any other info, just ask
zeromd
let us wait because simple burner always came with the usa version only.
Guest Anonymous
You said the back of the N510 is plastic? Are the back corners plastic, too, or is it just a panel in the back? I'm thinking about getting the N510 or the NE410, why did you go with the N510? And is the adapter that comes with it just for cars? Thanks for the information. Peace.
Bazirker
The NE410 can only download tracks from your computer; it has no recording capabilites. However, the N510 can record from analog or digital sources (not mic though) as well as from thr computer. When you say adaptor, do you mean power adaptor or audio adaptor? If it comes with a car kit, it likely has a 120V power adaptor for your house, a 12V adaptor for your car, and a tape deck adaptor so you can play md through your car's stereo if it has a tape deck. Guest Anonymous
Bazirker, I mean a power adaptor. I was actually wondering if anyone (latchy?) knows if it comes with a power adaptor for home use? The photo - http://www.minidisc.org/images/sony_mzn510.jpg - just shows a power adaptor for a car. And can anyone please describe this plastic back panel? It sounds cheap, and I really like the all-metal casing on all the NetMDs I've seen. Thanks for your help! Daijoubu
I beleive the 510 is like the 707, aluminium in the front and plastic on the back
Guest Anonymous
Yes it does come with a power (AC) adaptor. You can run it straight from the mains. It also comes with 1 NiCD rechargeable battery which you recharge via the AC adaptor. As for the back panel, I'm afraid it does look a bit cheap, but then, as MDs go, it is cheap. You have to pay more for the top MDs. I can describe it pretty much exactly as I'm holding it right now. The back is a grey-cream colour with a bulge where the battery goes. In fact I'd go as far as saying that the MD is an all-plastic unit with a brush metal finish to the front. I think this would be accurate. Having said that though it does look cool from the front. My advice would be to try before you buy, at a shop. Not sure if they're in the streets yet though. I'd imagine the MZ 505 and 707 are pretty similar. hope this helps

Luckily I had a remote and battery that came with my MZ-R70 and car adaptors from various CD players I've purchased.
rednax
I bought the N510 at a hurry not noticing that it doesn't have a recording jack. Would really want to use it to for live recordings. How now? Are there line-in microphones or usb microphones? Has anyone tried? Thanks for your help!
Guest Anonymous
I am about to buy this from Amazon, and in the picture it is shown with a remote control for the headphones and one for the car. Is this accurate, because i have read so many reviews that it doesnt come with a remote And also, are there any good cases out there to hold both a the player and about 15 discs? thanks Commander Raab
JeffS
I bought my 510ck a week ago in Chicago at the Sony store downtown. It came with the inline remote (non-lcd version), car remote, cassette adpater for the car, cigarette lighter power adapter, and ac wall adapter. some headphones, and a blank md. software included sonic stage 1.5, simpleburner (didn't check the rev), and of course the netmd driver. it's also got a small leather case for the MD that's designed for use while in your car.... This is the package that is being sold in the US. I'm not sure how it is packaged elsewhere. good luck -Jeff
Guest Anonymous
Does the unit not come with a battery? If so, what battery did you get for it? And can you charge the battery whilst it is in the unit? Finally, do you know whether you can hack the 510, cause i would really like to be able to change to line out sometimes. I am thinking it might be better to get the 610 and buy an additional car kit, or maybe even the 707. Cause if the 510 cant do those two things it is pretty lame. let me know please thanks Commander Raab

JeffS
I've got the 510, and personally, I love it! I've heard that it can charge a battery, but I think it will only do this with a NiCad. I'm currently using NiMH batteries in there, and it does not appear to charge them. There is mention of a hack for the 510, and I'm currently trying to figure out what is and is not enabled by doing it. Like you, I want line out, but I also want the timer (sleeping past your trainstop really sucks) The 610 is nice because you also get the radio option which is cool. it was a tough call for me, though my final decision was set by two factors. 1. they didn't have the 610 in stock 2. I'm not too crazy about the blue (personal opinion) good luck with which ever unit you get -Jeff

I've heard many people say that they dont get many of the things that are in the picture that we've all seen of the N510CK. Ashitaka
If you want to play the songs in a group and only 1 group you have activate the group mode by pressing more than 2 seconds the group button. Now you can even shuffle in the group you select. I'm sure you already guessed this one but in case you didn't here is the answer. When I first called, and asked about what was in, they said out of stock. When I got to talking to the guy, he seemed suprised they hadn't received simpments yet, but were expecting them soon. As for the hack thing, I'm not touching mine, until I can get confirmation one way or the other, how possible it is. devcoder
Hey MD Users, I just got my 510CK yesterday and man is it sweeeeeeeeeeeet. The thing I loved about it was it came with some many accessories even a carrying case. Record time was very brief and the sound quality of the the whole player is awesome but the best part about the 510CK is the cost. Compared to the other MD's and Mp3 players out there the 510CK was relativly sold at a good cost. To name most of the things that came with my 510CK since so many people are asking was a remote, cassette car adapter, cig liter slot power adapter, another remote for when listenin in the car, usb cable, headphones, carrying case, and one 74 premium Sony MD.I give Sony Two Thumbs up. Thanks -Devcoder
blkmage
I got my MZ-N510 two weeks ago. I was pretty happy with it. Came with everything I needed, and works perfectly - except for the fact that I live in Canada, therefore, no remote for me  . Otherwise, good job, Sony. JeffS
I've since done the hack, and love the additional features. the Melody Timer, is GREAT. I commute daily. I'm a little disappointed however, in the fact that sound settings, display settings, etc, don't stay. They always reset to default. I'm guessing this has something to do with PDM not working. (it works but only for a few minutes) Is there an addition to the hack to add FULL functionality? the EQ is great also. -Jeff

heffer
Red N510?! Since when... :shock:Well, in my opinion, the Fun Red N510 is waaaay cooler than the yellow N505, but then again I never had the yellow N505 so I really can't compare. The red ones are selling faster than the other models here in Norway, that I can vouch for :-) Maybe it's just me but I think silver and metallic blue is being overused nowadays. They are still nice colors though :-) Well regarding the hacks, I think we cannot expect 100% functionality on that one, maybe that is why Sony disabled them. But I do love the fact that we now have more sound options than just 1 and 2 (I love the Jazz preset) and the LINE OUT function I simply cannot live without. Guest Anonymous
Hello. Can anybody tell me - is there some message on display of MZ N510CK when you try to charge it? I'm afraid, that my 510 doesn't support charging in itself.. My current rechergable battery is NiCD but when I try to make recharge function work - nothing's gonna happen... And one more. When you connect AC Adapter to MZ N510CK AND LEAVE IT ALONE - is your MD making some sounds inside? It doesn't matter - is there any disc inside or not. Sound seems like MD try to move a little bit laser/magnet heads and this sound repeat 5-8 second in period. When I plug out AC Adapter (only battery is inside) - this strange sound ends. What can it be? Thank you and waiting for answers.
JeffS
not sure about your internal noise issue, but I can help with charging. With a battery inside, and ac power hooked up, press STOP. The unit has to be in a stopped state already, and pressing it one more time will start charging. It will say charging on the display, and you'll see the battery symbol flash it's meters. good luck -Jeff
Guest Anonymous
To Jeffs Thank you A LOT!!! The recharge function is working now! The official manual for this model is keeping silence about that. I find it very strange..
Guest Anonymous
Hello. First time forum user, and I gotta say, Kudos. Waaay too many forums out there with threads that end in nothing but flames. Nice to see things kept relevant. I am considering purchasing an N510 and have a couple of queries I was hoping someone could answer. I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I have asked a store assistant (a friend, actually), and he didn't know at the time, so here goes. When recording with the N510 from an analogue source, can you hear what's being recorded on the output? I ask because I'd like to be able to hook the 510 up to my Yamaha receiver in the Tape/MD loop (standard dual-RCA in and outs). This will only be useful if what I'm sending into the 510 goes through to the headphone output. (I do realise I may need to play around with the output levels to get it right for line-levels). Second question, what is this hack that people are talking about? What does it do, how is it done? I'd greatly appreciate any info you could give, either here or via email (crazydescurly@yahoo.com.au). Oh, btw, if anyone wanted to know, I'm in Australia, the land of slightly lagging technology and poor currency conversion. Thanks in advance.
