hello i'm new here biggrin.gif

i'm from the uk and have decided on taking the plunge on getting a mini disc over mp3 player for obvious reasons smile.gif

but i'm a little stumped on which to buy having read a lot of reviews forums etc i'm still a little confused which to get so if anyone can shed some light on my situation it ould be much apprecited.

Basically my main uses will be transferring mp3s *shudder* from my computer to mini disc also music from cd's. I'm looking for blindingly good sound.

Looking for long battery life, strong build, and all the usual necesities.

My budget is £250 and any links and reccomendationds would be great.

Oh i have any query can you upload files form a md ?

Thanks

Shawn

hey there,

Oh i have any query can you upload files form a md ?

yes and no, u can u/l files from an MD but using the old non-NetMD method (analogue cables)...

and to answer ur first q £250 is about hmmm...A$650-$700 am i correct??? well i would say that u take a look @ the Sharp series of recorders...depending on whether or not u wan NetMD capabilities or not i would suggest u take a look @ the DR7 (non-NetMD) or the IM-MT880 (NetMD) since they more or less fit ur wants that u desribed...

click on the link below to check out the specs of the units :

Sharp Recorders

um hmmm...well regarding the sites i would most probably say that u can take a look @ AVLand and the cables are just basically normal two sided 3.5mm stereo plugs (one on each end i.e.)...i'll try and dig round some UK sites and post a direct URL here if i can find it...

about the simple guide, it's not realli that hard to record from MD -> PC...i'll give u a simple run down here...

1) Plug in the cable from the LINE OUT on ur MD (or HEADFONES output if it doesn't hav a LINE OUT setting) to the LINE IN on ur soundcard.

2) Open up a recording program that your soundcard has then set the input as LINE IN

3) Press PLAY on the MD unit and press record on the recording program and that's about it...u may need to adjust the volume of the MD recorder if u are using its HEADFONES jack, otherwise if therez a LINE OUT option then i would suggest u use that.

hope this very simple guide helps you out, feel free to ask anything if you still have some doubts and i'll c wot i can do to clear it up...happy hunting... tongue.gif

Your investment level seems high enough to afford the best. Based on your usage requirements, I would recommend either a Sony MZ-N10 or MZ-N910. The 910 has longer battery life, but is a little bigger. The N10 is like a Ferrari. Very sleek and cool, but slightly smaller petrol tank. Both offer NetMD, which once you decide to forgive it its limitations, you should find very useful for transferring MP3's and CD's. Anyway, you can record normally also, so you don't lose anything having NetMD capabilities.

I prefer the Sony designs over Sharp.
