SI: New Sony S-Series Walkman Caught In The Wild?

Question

Picture removed by Sony, but google around and you'll find it. Like here at engadget.

The S-Series Sony Walkman has been a good seller for Sony – super-thin, music and video capabilities, long lasting battery, FM tuner, and so forth. It resides in a good price range and has probably been one of Sony’s best selling Walkmans. We recieved this picture from one of our most credible sources of a never before seen Walkman and we are guessing this will be the successor to the S series. Pictured in red, blue, pink and black, what is most curious about this device is the inclusion of what seems to be speakers on the front of the device. This could be great for those who like to use their music players without headphones, like at the beach. The design is really fresh looking and the screen also seems to be bigger. This product isn’t set to arrive for a while, but we are hoping that Sony brings it to the market with higher than 8GB capacities, noise canceling, and even better battery life.

Yes I agree - the SE X3 looks pretty nice and hopefully will run more quickly and smoothly than x1. Only problem is SQ. I doubt any SE phone (even walkman branded ones) will ever match the SQ of straight walkmans. I have the W715 which is a reasonaby recent SE Walkman and while the SQ is pretty good it is no match for the A818 or X series.

My hope is that the next X series walkman will be "the one" - Android based, quicker (ie. faster processsor etc), thinner and open/customizable.

Even Cowon has given us gapless for mp3's (Cowon S9 Curve - I have it, and it's gapless!!!!!), and unless Sony does the same I'll NEVER buy 1 of their players again. They stopped it when they stopped forcing us to use Sonic Stage (I liked the software btw, just not being forced to use ATRAC for gapless), so now we get a dumbed down player w/no gapless as a penalty? Really - no gapless then no more Sony for ME!!!!

Some initial info for the new S series

2 different capacities, 8 and 16 GB

8 - NWZ-S544

price around 128 euros

16 - NWZ-S545

price around 144 euros

Not sure but the 16 gig model may only be black colour for europe, although not sure elsewhere. I was told shipping before mid to end of september.

Darkside, I only saw these 2 models, perhaps more will be added but 32gb could make the device cost too much perhaps, again not sure. But my guess is that another S series could debut such as a new 700 series with higher capacity? But I doubt it seeing as this new S series went from 600/700 naming to 500 naming. Perhaps the new A series will not be 800 but instead 700? or even 600

E44x

S54x

A64x?

Looks weird, they should stick to 800 and 900 for the A series.

All Sony's wacky numbering really means nothing. All I'm looking forward to is a Sony player that hits 32gb,................. and isn't touchscreen - like the X1000 series. And I want my cake & to eat it too,......I want GAPLESS!!!!

Ok, lol, I'm better now.
