clonmult
I'm (hopefully) going to be buying a NetMD deck soon, just got one niggling question. My only net access is via work, and due to the firewalls in place, not much can "get out" to the net. Does the OpenMG/SonicStage actually NEED to connect to CDDB/other net services? Does the OpenMG/SonicStage actually NEED to connect to CDDB/other net services?well not really...i hardly use the CDDB newayz...just so long as ur mp3's or CD's have titles then it should be good...otherwise u can title them yourself...it's not much of a hassle thru the keyboard anywayz... clonmult
Thats cool, I just thought that it used the web-based side for DRM type purposes.
Bazirker
I use CDDB all the time, although I don't know if a firewall will disrupt it or not. You can ONLY use your NetMD deck at work? That's a bummer...
yaneurabeya
Why not just run your CDDB as port 80? Port 80's a given for almost all firewalls (at least the good ones), because at least 1 outgoing port is required, and port 80 (http) is the best one. Otherwise, just petition for port 888 to be opened up .
Leland
The one issue you will have is backup and restore functions. If you want to use the backup and restore programs, you MUST be connected to the internet. I don't know what it checks, but it checks something. Many do not use this function anyway. clonmult
I'm transfering stuff using Nero Imagedrive and Simpleburner, and our admins won't open any ports for anyone no matter what. I'm definitely a happy bunny with the player though - its rocks.
