Guest Anonymous
I know that in theory the 710 is the better unit, but what are you gaining? I know some of the differences - better remote, battery life, microphone input, but apart from that, what are the major benefits of getting the 710 over the 510? sudden
Well apart from that It's the same hardware inside, same codec and amp. However aren't "better remote, battery life, mic in" reasons enough to get the 710? I would call that major benefits!
mAjEsTiC
also the N710 uses a NiMH gumstick battery instead of a single AA battery that the N510 uses...but as sudden said above what you mentioned before should be reason enough to go and get an N710 over a N510 as all of those extras stated are major benefits over the N510... Guest Anonymous
I've had a Sony WM-D6C for about 12 years. That was (in its time) one of the best portable recorders. Mic-in on that has never been used. I even bought a Mic on the off-chance that I may use it. I haven't. Not once. Lecture and note taking was always done with my old Micro Cassette. I'll have to see if the wife will let me stretch the extra 20 quid for the 710.
mAjEsTiC
yep good choice... and i know what you mean about your old WM-D6C...i own a MZ-R2 and that was a nice unit back in those days as well...still in working condition and i hardly use it now since i own newer units...the mic input there is a convenience...for me it's good for recording lectures at uni tho i hardly do coz the slides are usually posted up on the web but for times when there is something important that they discuss and it's not on the slides, i'm happy its there so that i can connect my mic to... Guest Anonymous
I'm going to go for the 510; spend the difference on blank discs. However, a friend was trying to find out the cost price of the units over here (he has contacts at sony), and he couldn't get it much cheaper than the on-line retailers. Interesting fact was that they claimed that there are NO MORE 510 or 710s coming into the UK, due to a new model range coming in early next year.
