i'm an anthropology student living in mexico and i ordered an MZ-NF610 with my measly grant money. (partly for the radio since i'm in a very isolated area).

i checked the sony website and it said nothing about having no dedicated mic input. i need this recorder to do voice interviews and i can't get audio plugging it into the line-in. i am fighting with sony to exchange it right now (my vendor would have done it but of course my friend didn't bring it down with original packaging).

is there anything i can do if i lose my fight with sony (which i probably will)? i have not much money. they wouldn't even give me suggestions and I'm not very tech savvy. I have a Sony ECM-MS907 microphone (battery-powered).

many many thanks!

hmmm...if u have a powered mic (one with batteries) then it is usually possible to record via the LINE IN on the recorder...(i.e. plug the ECM-MS907 mic into the LINE IN jack on ur unit and just hit record) but what i don't get is that you say that u can't get audio plugging it in2 the lin-in...which is very odd...could u plz elaborate on this??? coz i'm not quite sure what u mean....

i plug it into the line in and then record, but even when i put the volume on manual and raise it to max. the sound that gets recorded is very faint.

i was recording church bells and i could barely hear them.

ohhh rite rite...did u change the recording sensitivity to high??? coz even if you turn the volume level manually to max and it's on low sensitivity u can barely hear anything...but it also could be that the battery in the mic mite be flat (though if it's brand new then it's highly unlikely...)

.if u accept a powered mic (one with batteries) again it is usually accessible to almanac via the LINE IN on the recorder...(i.e. bung the ECM-MS907 mic into the LINE IN jack on ur assemblage and just hit record) but what i don't get is that you say that u can't get audio active it in2 the lin-in...which is actual odd...could u plz busy on this??? coz i'm not absolutely abiding what u mean....
