kevs
When I got my home unit md 5 years ago, my cd player did not have optical out. I may buy new one shortly. 1) With recording optically, will all info, songs , artist, album show up then on all mds? 2) Will that info tranfer over if you make a backup copy cdr of the md? 3) If so, then what is keyboard for? tweaking mistakes? thanks! sudden
1, Yes it can, if the CD Audio disc have CD TEXT. 2, Yes if it's a true CD copy, the orginal info will also remain. 3, Keyboard are usefull for non CD TEXT discs and if you record analog from ex radio. kevs
JUst got the Sony cd player with optical out. And it does not transfer any cd text info to mini disc. This conforms to what I have been learning recently that commercial cd's do not, in fact, have any data imbedded into them.
mAjEsTiC
i think u need another cable for transfering CD Text...like when the portables had this feature you needed another cable in order for the CD Text to be transfered... kevs
Can you be more specific? I had long talk with two sendior techs at Apple recently, and they explained that when I insert a cd into my computer and then see artist/title info, it's becasue it queried it from online database, based on match of songs, lenght of cd and other matches, and that cds have absoslutely no song/album, or artist info embedded into them whatsoever. Do you know otherwise? Please be specific. thanks!
mAjEsTiC
that's interesting...if the CD doesn't appear to have CD Text then you can't really do much about it even if you did use the CDDB to connect to the net and try to get the cd info...but if say that it is there and you see that all the songs on the CD are titled then transfering via optic to MD won't transfer the CD Text across unless you use another cable that looks to me like it connects to the remote jack on the MD unit... kevs
Majestic: Let me clarify. If I were to put a commercially recorded cd into my computer with i tunes (I'm on a Mac)... then i tunes would query online Database and pull up artist/song titles etc -- but this is based on that database matching things it sees on the cd like length, number of songs etc. The CD has nothing encoded on it about song info -- were you aware of that? I just learned that last week. Maybe you know less than I do. Hence, when I put the cd into my cd player (not the computer), and then record song to my home unit MD player, no song info, artist info transfers , nothing. I was hoping otherwise, (now that I got a new cd player with a digital output). But I'm putting out this post to double check. Let me know what you think. Also, want to ask: are there any great forums geared to CD recording, mp3 transferring, or general audio stuff, or Sony products ... thanks! mAjEsTiC
oh right...hmmm...i think it all depends on the CD itself because some of the CD players that do support CD TEXT it will show up on the remote (well at least this works for me on some of the CD's i've used in my CD player...) but i'm not entirely sure about CD TEXT on the actual CD and how it's recognised by the CD player...but previously i've seen CD TEXT transfers done quite easily when my friend showed me on his R91 and Discman both by sony using the Optic cable and specialised CD TEXT transfer cable and the titles as well as the song got transfered over to MD perfectly...sorry i'm not entirely sure how this works because i have never used this function before...
