anearfull
I'm one happy newbie I bought a Sony MZ-R50 last week and was blown away by it. I just received my Xitel MD-Port DG2 today and the optical out makes things even better. The Xitel was truly plug and play and made a huge improvement to the already great analog recordings I had been making. The one fly in the ointment is that there aren't any track marks being inserted as I record ... all track are run together. I've tried recording with the MZ-R50s synchro switch in both the on and off position but it still records one huge track with everything in it. I'm using Windows Media Player to play the CD tracks into my R50. Could that be the reason that track marks aren't getting through? Any recommendations on what software to use for recording? Thanx Peter in Ottawa
mAjEsTiC
i usually use a program called mp32md...this leaves a gap inbetween songs and allows the MD to recognise this as an indication to put another track mark when sync record is turned on... I'd like to give mp32md a try but I'm curious why track marking isn't working when I simply play the CD into my R50. There's already fairly long gaps between tracks on this CD and when I record it using an analog cable, all the track marks get accurately detected by the synch feature. Does mp32md just add extra long pauses between tracks? Where can I get a copy of mp32md? You say you use it for transferring mp3 files but I'm simply transferring CD tracks directly to MD. Is it good for non-mp3 tracks too? I’ve heard of a program called Foobar and another called QCD. Would they also correct the problem I’m seeing with automatic track mark insertion? mAjEsTiC
Thanks Majestic ... you're sort of a Guardian Angel around here or something?hehe...uh not really i wouldn't consider myself as one...i just help out where i can... I'd like to give mp32md a try but I'm curious why track marking isn't working when I simply play the CD into my R50. There's already fairly long gaps between tracks on this CD and when I record it using an analog cable, all the track marks get accurately detected by the synch feature. Does mp32md just add extra long pauses between tracks?yep basically mp32md adds a long pause between tracks and it kind of does something with the optic signal that makes the MD's optical input recognise that it's a silent track and thus the sync record function adds in an auto track mark... Where can I get a copy of mp32md? You say you use it for transferring mp3 files but I'm simply transferring CD tracks directly to MD. Is it good for non-mp3 tracks too?you can find the link to d/l mp32MD program here...and i don't think that it's possible for CD's to be copied over to MD using this program...since the only file extensions (in my version which is not that recent) is .mp3, .wav, .mid, .wma, .asf & .snd...i think the newer version may or may not have CD compatibility...but check it out nonetheless... I’ve heard of a program called Foobar and another called QCD. Would they also correct the problem I’m seeing with automatic track mark insertion? i would say so...if you use WinAmp i hear that there is a plug-in that will allow a gap to be put inbetween songs so that it can be picked up by the MD recorder as a silent track and create a new track mark...i can't remember the name of it atm but i'll try and hunt around for a link to it.... Guest Anonymous
Here is a MiniDisc Track Generator plug-in for Winamp classic. It puts gaps between tracks when recording to MD: http://classic.winamp.com/plugins/detail.j...mponentId=79370 Its called MP3MD. Gets good ratings from users. Guest Anonymous
Hi Guys, I find this whole business of making gaps between track very unsatisfactory. Sure it gets the MD recorder to add a track mark but as I'm sure you are aware, many heavy metal tracks in particular on an album are joined together and in some cases (usually live) whole LPs are continuous without gaps. When recording such joined tracks/LPs, it sounds rubbish if there are gaps inserted. When I record these sort of joined tracks from a CD via coax or optical the track marks get inserted properly without any gaps being required so surely its a signal being sent down the digital cable that is causing this so WHY CANT THIS BE DONE DOWN THE DIGITAL CABLE FROM A PC SOUNDCARD TOO? If anyone can explain it I'd be greatful.
Expander2000
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum (but not to MDs in general). To the last post, my best guess would be that those wrote the software did not take the "track mark insertion" into consideration. I still think the absolute best way to record digitaly is by 2 ways: 1. Burn the music onto a CD-R/RW and play it in a dvd player with the optical out. 2. Same as above but playit on a CD-Rom with COAX-2-Optical converter. Eric.
Guest Anonymous
Eric/Expander, I am in the same opinion as you. All these people are talking and talking about pathetic ways like inserting gaps and buying additional hardware to get the track marks in there. For all the hassle its not worth it at all. Burning the damn Mp3 files to a CD-RW and playing it into the minidisc deck from a CD player with a digital connection is far simpler. It even puts the titles in if the CD player reads CD-Text, so whats the point of trying to do it direct from PC ?
mAjEsTiC
i would have agreed with your previous post but you have to see that not everyone owns an MD deck...the best they have is probably a PC with an optical out from the soundcard so i was just explaining how to do it from the PC that way... Guest Anonymous
Thats true Majestic but come on, it need not necessarily be a deck. Portables have digital-in too and these days you can pick up a CD player with digital-out for the same price as a soundcard or Xitel kit if not cheaper. Guest Anonymous
i'm having the exact problem with my recordings. previously, I just record it all onto my MD and then just go thru and cut up the tracks using the time index from the mp3s (from winamp playlist.) decent results but I would like to automate this instead. now, i am trying that minidisc track generator plugin for winamp, but i'm using winamp5 and its not working well. I am trying to find the old winamp to try again.
KLank
Another thing that works well is to use a PS2 to play your CD's. Using the optical out on the back of the PS2 you will get the track marks inserted onto the minidisc just fine.
