Guest Anonymous
Hello, I want to buy a cheap MD-Recorder. The "Sharp MT270" looks interesting for me, cost´s 99 Euro and has everything i need (and i like the design :-) ). Basically it is the same model as the "Sharp MT180". The main difference is that the MT 180 has an rechargeable battery (a special model by Sharp, replacement costs 50 Euros, too much i think) while the MT270 get´s it´s power from a standard AA-battery. I downloaded the user manual of the MT270 an it says that i should not put rechargeable batterys in there. So my question is: Despite the users manual: Has anyone tried to put a rechargeable battery into it? What can happen? Or should i take the MT180, because it is so much better? thanks... mAjEsTiC
it's fine if you put rechargeable batteries in the unit...i do it on my units and nothing is wrong with them...what i think the manufacturer is worried about is the fact that rechargeable batteries have a lower power output than normal alkaline and they have a very sharp drop off when they die....alkalines die off consistently whereas rechargeable batteries just die suddenly and there might be a chance it could damage some internal components...oh well i could be wrong but that's my opinion on why manufacturers put that warning in their manuals...but i've used MD's for quite some time and i've been using rechargeables in them as well...they all work fine so it's all good... KJ_Palmer
I've got both units, and they're both great (you can't beat that 10mW x 2 output 8) ). I'd say the MT270 wins slightly because of its ability to set bass and treble, whereas the MT180 only has bass boost. It should be fine to use rechargeable batteries in the MT270, it just might not be able to charge them, but of course it's fine to do that externally. BerkY
Yea alkalines have a voltage of 1.5v whereas Ni-MH and Mi-Cd's have 1.2v. So that difference could affect the internal components and the operation of the minidisc. If it is saying you shouldnt use rechargeable batteries i dont think you should. Cos the MT270 is not a great model and its compnents might be made for only 1.5v operation. So using a 1.2v power source might damage somthing in the long run. The newer models are made for 1.2v operation as they come with a rechargeable battery in the first place. But that's what i think...
Guest Anonymous
Thank´s for your support! Great forum here, very kind, very helpful... I decided to get the Sharp MT180 (with rechargeable internal battery). The reason for me to buy a MD-device is, that i first bought an mp3-flash- player and an mp3-usb-stick. i returned both of them to the shops because both of them had a strong tendency to crash or to loose data. So i decided to stop dabbling with MP3 and to switch to a solution that has the advantage of functioning. So i want to take no risk. If there are any differences between rechargeables and alkalines, as two of you mentioned in your posts, i´m going to take the safe solution. and from my experience i would say, that i don´t need a treble-adjustment: the sound has never been the problem with my portable devices. :-)
Guest Anonymous
hello first of all, the battery supplied with the 180, so the nimh small flat battery is also 1.2 volt, i looked it up, so you could easily put a AA nimh battery in it. In then manual you can find, don't use an Cadmium AA rechargeable, that's maybe the key. it's true that Cadmium rechargeable batteries can have very high current rates, that's why we use them in radio guided little cars (how do you call it, toys for childern). But in case of a minidisc this isn't an issue, if it would drain that much current, the battery, the flat or the AA would be empty in no time. So it isn't the current, else they could make the slim, flat battery as an minh. I don't think that a lot of electronics die from not enough voltage, they die from to many. And the fast drop off, is true again, but it isn't as fast as lighting, so it isn't exactly a spike in the voltage and current. So i suppose you could just use an ni-mh AA battery, if you look good enough, you can find 2400mAH , thev flat slim battery is only 1300mah; so if it does 11h on the 1300mah, it does approx 21h on the AA so that's a long time, bye
