 I bought a Sony minidisc MZ N10, lovely machine, but it has developed a problem, where there is no display on the main unit when playing, it only displays on the remote control. Can someone tell me if i have a problem here, or there is a feature that must have been turned off?

But the default contrast levels is enough for you to be able to see whats on the screen. Could be just a faulty LCD screen. Not really a big problem but still a hassle as the menu are much easily accesed from the main unit rather than the remote. Btw if you cannot see anything from the screen how can he adjust the contrast at all??? That option can only be found on the MAIN UNIT and not in the menu of the remote. I think he has to take it to a repair center... How annoying dont you think. I would be damn pissed at the sales man who sold me such a product... But then again I would check it before buying wink.gif Its hard to sell me a lemon smile.gif

quite hard 2 check a brand new product that hasn't been opened yet...to find a unit with a non working screen is pretty rare...unless the connectors are loose??? but that's pretty uncommon since i remembered a few years back we had to build out own digital multimeters in high skool and most of the displays worked...and if they didn't it was because of the "rubber" connectors...but that was MUCH bigger than MD's so i wouldn't muck around with it if i were you...just take it back (as BerkY suggested) if it's under warranty to get it checked out i spose...that's the safest path IMO...

I never buy a product before checking it that it works at the store. No matter if its a no name product or a Sony. A faulty product being sold could like a small percentage of thousand to one, for example, but still i always ask the sales person to open the box and show me it works smile.gif Never trust em... smile.gif

i thought u were testing the unit out thoroughly...^^ so i thought that u told them to like charge up the battery (or use the AC adaptor) and an MD to test out if the unit works...but yeh i usually trust them most of the time since if it doesn't work then i can just bring it back to the store and have them swap it...(this has never happened to me with any of my products that i've bought from Sony or any other brand thus far...and hopefully never will)

Well charging the battery isnt an option but most battery come %25 charged anyway... I ask em to pop an MD if they have one around, mostly they do... and listen to it for 5 seconds, skip songs, ff-fr songs etc... fiddle with the menus. I always have to be sure the product works properly. Its just me smile.gif
